Job Description

Senior Project Controller
Empowering projects. Enriching communities. Growing together.

At Mott MacDonald, we believe infrastructure is more than just physical assets—it’s about creating lasting, positive change for people and the planet. As part of our expanding Advisory team, we’re looking for a senior project controller to help shape the future of infrastructure across New Zealand.

This is your opportunity to join a global consultancy that values purpose, integrity, and collaboration. Based in Auckland, you’ll work on high-impact projects across transport, buildings, infrastructure, and water—supporting government and institutional clients to deliver outcomes that matter.

Your role
As a senior project controller, you’ll be a trusted advisor and a key contributor to the success of major project commissions. You’ll bring structure, insight, and leadership to project delivery—ensuring that our clients are empowered with the tools, data, and guidance they need to make confident decisions.

You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, planners, and environmental specialists, to implement and maintain robust project control systems. Your role will be central to building trust, promoting accountability, and driving performance across the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of project control frameworks across complex infrastructure projects
  • Coordinate and support diverse project teams to ensure alignment, efficiency, and delivery excellence
  • Establish and maintain project programs, monitor progress, and produce high-quality performance reports
  • Use tools such as Power BI, MS Excel, MS Project, and Primavera (P6) to deliver accurate, insightful reporting
  • Apply your knowledge of earned value management and contractual frameworks to guide project success
  • Advise clients on project governance, delivery models, and procurement strategies
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring open communication and shared success

About you

  • Experience working on large-scale engineering or construction projects, ideally within consultancy or alliance environments
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in civil engineering, commercial management, or a related field
  • Confident using project control tools and systems, with a strong analytical mindset
  • A commitment to accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality in your work
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across diverse teams
  • Passionate about delivering infrastructure that improves lives and strengthens communities

What we offer

  • A supportive, inclusive culture that prioritises wellbeing, growth, and purpose
  • Opportunities to work on local and international projects that make a real difference
  • An agile work policy, enhanced KiwiSaver contributions, and a competitive salary
  • Discretionary Group and Personal Performance Bonuses for eligible employees
  • Access to global expertise, professional development, and clear pathways for career progression
  • A workplace where your achievements are celebrated, your voice is heard, and your impact is recognised
