Mott MacDonald is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Principal Project Controls Specialist to support major project deliver in Vancouver. In this role, you will work within an owners project team to lead a team to establish and execute project controls systems on a major project.

In this role, the Principal Project Controls Specialist will be responsible for:


  • Lead the establishment and implementation of project and/or program control frameworks across complex infrastructure projects ensuring alignment with client objectives and delivery milestones

  • Develop and maintain integrated project and/or program schedules and budgets, and oversee performance tracking and reporting

  • Provide commercial and financial oversight, including forecasting, earned value analysis, and risk management, applying knowledge of contractual frameworks to guide project success

  • Advise clients on project control best practices and guide the owner on the appropriate tools and systems to support delivery.

  • Use tools such as Power BI, MS Excel, MS Project, and Primavera (P6) to deliver accurate, data-driven insights

  • Provide detailed analysis and reporting to ensure any deviations in the project are communicated through the correct channels to affected parties

  • Provide earned value analysis and other industry-recognized schedule performance metrics

  • Support governance and assurance processes, including reporting to steering committees and senior stakeholders

  • Mentor and support junior project controllers, contributing to capability development across the team

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure transparency, accountability, and shared success

  • Drive continuous improvement in project control systems and processes


To be successful in this role, the following list of experience and skills are required:


  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering, commercial management, or a related field

  • 15+ years of project and/or program controls experience with supporting professional accreditation (PMP, MAPM, or similar)

  • A collaborative leader who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment

  • Passionate about delivering infrastructure that improves lives and strengthens communities

  • Proven experience in project and/or program controls within large-scale engineering or infrastructure projects

  • Owner-side PMO experience setting and implementing their project and/or program control systems on large infrastructure projects is a preference

  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to interpret and communicate financial and performance data

  • Confident using project control tools and systems, with a strong analytical mindset

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills

In compliance with the B.C. Pay Transparency Act, the expected salary range is from $159,000 - $195,000.
Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.
