About the business unit

The Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers management services in all the sectors that Mott MacDonald operate in the Built Environment, Defence, Energy, Water, Transportation and, Education, Health and Care.

The Unit delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of Programme Management, Project Management, Project Controls, Scheduling, Cost Management, Estimating, Infrastructure Finance, Management Consulting, Digital Consulting and Education, Health and Care Management.

Overview of role

About the team

The Mott MacDonald Quality Team provide direct quality management, assurance, governance, and audit support to our Project/Sector teams working on major projects across the UK in Rail, Highways, Ports, Aviation, Maritime, Defence, Energy, the Built Environment, Social Infrastructure and Water Infrastructure & Environment.
This role in particular will comment on our portfolio of Energy projects. These projects offer an extensive range of programme support capabilities to our Nuclear Energy clients and offers applicants exposure to interesting and complex projects.

As Quality Manager, you will carry out delivery of the quality role individually or as the Project Quality Lead, supported by additional members of the Quality Team as identified by the project scope and contract quality commitments/requirements.

What you will contribute to the Quality Team

  • Develop business improvement programmes & project management their effective delivery in line with experience and knowledge and project job role.
  • Provide clear and effective advice, guidance, and support to project teams in relation to the application of quality management, assurance, and governance to the project.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of an integrated management system in line with ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 & ISO 44001 as required by the project/ contract quality requirements/commitments and relevant legal and other requirements.
  • Carry out audits as identified and provide written reports on the findings to promote continued improvement and support lessons learnt workshops.
  • Provide strong stakeholder engagement internally with PMO, Safety, Sustainability & Risk (as appointed to the project) teams to minimise duplication of effort in the IMS.
  • Produce the Project Quality Management Plan (QMP), manage its implementation and monitor its effectiveness against project/contract quality requirements/commitments and relevant legal and other requirements.
  • Produce an Assurance Management Plan (AMP), manage its implementation and monitor its effectiveness against project/contract quality requirements/commitments and relevant legal and other requirements.
  • Develop & coordinate delivery of a Risk Based Assurance Programme, manage the outputs from the assurance activities and work with the business to deliver any findings to completion.
  • Provide robust Management Information as appropriate to demonstrate performance of the IMS, including identifying good practices, opportunities for improvement and nonconformities.
  • Ensure robust engagement with alliance partner parent company representatives to provide assurance that their risk is being effectively managed.
  • Promote collaborative working across the project, alliance/JV partners, client, supply chain and other interested parties.
  • Support the Project Quality Lead in the interface & coordination with the wider Project Team, Alliance/JV partners and client in line with experience and project role

Candidate Specification

  • You must currently obtain, or be eligible for Security Clearance (SC).
  • You must have demonstrable experience working in highly regulated industries such as Energy, Nuclear, Oil & Gas.
  • Practitioner member of the CQI.
  • Hold CQI recognised quality management/ assurance qualifications for Practitioner Grade.
  • IRCA/CQI recognised ISO 9001 Internal Auditor Registration (or working towards).
  • Demonstrable knowledge and application of ISO 9001:2015 and awareness of sector specific guides in a work environment.
  • Experience in the design, implementation & management of integrated management systems.
  • Experience of a quality delivery role in an engineering/construction environment.
  • Experience of technical authoring in line with current knowledge and experience.
  • Experience of project managing business improvement programmes.
  • Able to carry out investigations and produce technically accurate reports.

Preferred, but not required

  • Experience of implementing/auditing to other ISO Management Standards, e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 44001.
  • Additional professional memberships, e.g., IOSH, IEMA, Institute of Collaborative Working
  • Experience of working within a joint venture / alliance is advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
