About the business unit
The Buildings and Cities Unit (BNC) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald's regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of diverse and transferable cross-sector skills across five key Sectors; Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation and Water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the Group in these sectors.

Job Description:

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced, qualified and enthusiastic Project Principal / Technical Principal to join our team in our London and South-East region of England. Reporting to the Resource Group Leader, the role provides leadership within the Infrastructure and Highways team supporting and contributing to the development of the business as well as having management and technical responsibilities. In addition, you will have a key role in contributing to the development of the wider divisional team based in the South East. We would consider applications from candidates interested in Cambridge, Croydon, Norwich, London or Southampton offces.

As a successful Infrastructure & Highways Project / Technical Principal, you will have a track record of growing businesses, developing people and delivering cross sector multi-disciplinary projects to quality, budget and timescales. You will be technically and commercially strong and have previously managed a number of projects simultaneously.

You will be offered, and be expected to take on, a high degree of autonomy and responsibility and be able to actively contribute to growing the Infrastructure & Highways team's profile and work portfolio through successful project delivery and active participation in business development.

  • Providing technical leadership including digital capabilities
  • Proactive approach to project and management issues
  • Providing positive leadership in Health & Safety
  • Developing the abilities and contribution of the team members
  • Ensuring compliance with corporate governance
  • Undertaking externally visibility activities.

Candidate Specification:
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or transport related discipline, or extensive equivalent experience
  • Chartered (or Incorporated) Engineer
  • Respected leadership capabilities and skills externally and internally
  • Demonstrable record in providing technical leadership on infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrable record of successfully managing project teams and of planning and controlling project programmes, budgets and resources
  • Demonstrable record in providing team leadership
  • Reputation as an outward facing representative able to develop and win new work.
  • Proven ability of commercial and financial competency
  • A strong portfolio of successful project delivery
  • IT and standard industry software skills, including knowledge of BIM and other digital tools.
  • Able to communicate confidently and professionally with colleagues, fellow professionals and clients at all levels (written and verbal)
  • Able to contribute to business development & development of client relationships
  • Confident, articulate, collaborative & proactive
  • Strong client-focussed behaviours and a desire to develop opportunities with clients.
