Project Director

As Project Director, you’ll take the lead of a team who will be managing workstreams on major infrastructure projects in the transport sector. You’ll play a key part in driving the development and growth of our diverse business by supporting existing clients and using your work winning experience to gain new business and contribute towards the delivery of high-quality project and programme management services that contribute to society and improve the communities in which we live and work.

A bit about the team

We operate in Aviation, Highways, Rail and Maritime. Our vision is to deliver major transportation projects as part of a global business and to establish our wide-ranging consultancy as ‘credible’ and ‘preferred’ for our existing and new clients.

Day to day duties include:

  • Developing strong and robust relationships within rail and local authority company clients supported by client account management plans.
  • Developing strong and robust internal relationships within Mott MacDonald
  • Supporting staff recruitment and growth of our accounts
  • Growing and developing key accounts within Mott MacDonald in response to organisational needs and Mott MacDonald strategy
  • Identifying opportunities, converting them into firm prospects (tracked and managed)
  • Driving the bidding process, converting prospects into projects ensuring bids are technically and commercially sound
  • Supporting project delivery, engaging expertise where required from across the Unit and wider Mott MacDonald
  • Managing risk and commercial performance on projects for their Accounts: A Project Director will have a number of Bid and Project Principals reporting to them
  • Promoting account leadership across the wider business
  • Complying with Mott MacDonald business management and quality assurance processes.
  • Working effectively with Technical Principals, and Sector/Practice Leaders to bring the right resources to deliver the project to client’s satisfaction while meeting additional Mott MacDonald project targets.
  • Running appropriate account meetings with client and senior level management involvement
  • Taking steps to reduce the likelihood and impact of client issues
  • Reporting management information into monthly senior leadership meetings
  • Monitoring of finances and utilisation on projects against budgets

Required for the position of Project Director:

  • Experience in the UK Transportation sector
  • Experience leading a consultancy offering in the UK Transport sector
  • Professionally qualified
  • Strong communication skills including writing reports and presenting
  • Right behaviours; in developing and building relationships, ethics and being a team player
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, stakeholders, colleagues and the supply chain
  • Ability to demonstrate a flexible approach to work
  • Flexibility to travel to client sites and other MM offices
  • Preferred but not essential:
  • Existing relationships with Network Rail, Department for Transport (DfT) and Local Authorities

Rail – We provide support to major rail infrastructure projects across the UK. We are particularly proud to be involved with HS2, EWR and Northern Powerhouse Rail along with a large number of other projects.

Highways – We work closely with National Highways supporting them on a variety of projects across the UK.

Ports – Our ports team covers aviation and maritime projects and we are seeing a lot of growth in this area with opportunities at key airports in the UK as well as further afield.

Local Authority – we support a wide range of local authorities across the country with their transportation projects. These projects often cover elements of rail, highways, sustainability and social value.
