About the business unit
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.

Overview of the role
As a Civil Engineering Team Resource Lead, you will lead the people management function for a team of technical and project management professionals across the Civil team in Energy Networks Division. You will be accountable to our Civil Engineering Team Lead and the Divisional Leadership Team. The Civil Engineering Team Resource Lead role will be both operational and strategic focus in a diverse role, embracing both day to day management and future long term planning.

Strategy

  • You will work closely with the technical leads from Civil and other disciplines to understand technical delivery of our projects and Account leads to understand the client demands and prospects.
  • You will combine this knowledge with a strong understanding of our current capabilities, enabling you to identify our capability development and recruitment strategies.
  • You will be responsible for meeting our future capability needs through developing our people, in collaboration with our discipline leads, Division, Unit, Group or strategic recruitment.

Operational and people management role

  • Include allocating and utilisation of staff for;
    • Delivery of fee earning projects for Account Leaders
    • Prospect and proposal activities

    • Delivery of internal innovation projects for the Technical Excellence Lead

  • Ensuring that the training and development activities are planned and carried out in a timely manner.
  • Supporting the Divisional Resource Manager in controlling overhead spend related to staff utilisation, training, IT, and other resource related budgets.
  • The health, safety, and wellbeing of your staff group, including being responsible for the roll-out of Group and divisional initiatives (such as EDI, stand downs etc) for your team.
  • Supporting the team line managers and technical leads as necessary in day to day people management
  • Staff engagement, ensuring that our people are happy and effective
  • Talent management and development, performance management, reward and recognition
  • Recruitment, in line with the capability plan (supported by line managers and technical leads)

Furthermore, you will be responsible for managing resources across the civil engineering teams. Also as part of your responsibilities, you will support project teams and account leaders. This involves collaborating with other Divisions and Units, utilizing GDS, managing staff utilization, planning and developing staff skills and capabilities, and making specialty resources available as needed for strategic projects. Additionally, you are responsible for advising the Civil Business lead, the general manager, and the divisional resource manager on staff reward and recognition. You also support business and team leads in recruitment, with assistance from recruitment teams, and contribute to growth plans.
