The role is responsible for the operational engineering leadership to all areas of the section to meet the required performance levels via sustainable improvements in engineering standards and equipment reliability.

You are responsible for developing, maintaining, and continually improving the equipment & maintenance systems and procedures to deliver improved performance across the Section.

The role will be accountable for the Section M&R Budget, controlling costs to achieve optimal Safety, Quality, GE and Waste performance as well as strong, visible on the floor leadership & strategic planning.

Reporting to the Section Lead, the role requires strong relationships with Technical Leads and Shift Technicians & business partnering to the Operations Managers (Cell Leads) for both Crème egg & Chocolate Making. The role is part of the PM Pillar team for the site

How you will contribute

Safety & Compliance

  • Own and lead the cell's safety programmes — including Equipment Safety, Process Safety, Contractor Safety, Isolation Awareness, Engineering Workshop Management, Permit to Work, and Complex Management — driving the required workflows and improvement plans.
  • Ensure all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements are fulfilled through robust preventive maintenance plans.

Maintenance Strategy & Planning

  • Partner with the Cell Lead and Technical Lead to manage maintenance planning and day-to-day maintenance activities.
  • Develop and continually improve AM and PM schedules through routine review and data-driven refinement.
  • Drive the creation and implementation of Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs) across your section.
  • Conduct equipment criticality assessments and establish optimized maintenance strategies accordingly.
  • Work with the Cell Technical Lead to develop maintenance plans, procedures, and checklists for routine tasks, shutdowns, and major overhauls — identifying resources, estimating time and costs, and coordinating with external contractors where required.
  • Plan and lead significant maintenance outages, rebuilds, and re-life activities.

Continuous Improvement & IL6S

  • Operate as an active member of the PM Pillar, adopting IL6S tools and implementing effective maintenance standards.
  • Collaborate with cell teams and other leaders to tackle top-loss problems, agree best practice, and roll it out consistently.
  • Support continuous performance and productivity improvements across the section (GE, Waste, etc.).
  • Actively participate in design reviews and Maintenance Prevention workshops.

Quality

  • Maintain a full understanding of all Quality Procedures relevant to equipment performance, and a working knowledge of all others within the operation.
  • Partner with Quality and Cell Teams to identify and reduce quality-related losses.

Technical Documentation & Obsolescence

  • Maintain up-to-date technical documentation for all section equipment, incorporating every improvement or modification.
  • Manage equipment obsolescence in your area — develop the replacement roadmap, drive masterplan actions, and prepare CAPEX proposals.

Projects & Cost Management

  • Manage and deliver low- and medium-sized projects within your area as part of the IIM Pillar.
  • Manage M&R spend.
  • Liaise with the Section Manager and budget holders to assess and fund required improvements.
  • Support the BD&E team on new equipment and product projects, ensuring vertical ramp-up and updates to all applicable procedures.

People Development & Coaching

  • Technically coach engineers across all disciplines within the cell.
  • Mentor engineering apprentices, ensuring learning objectives are met.
  • Provide hands-on technical support to PM Technicians in your area of responsibility.
  • Ensure technician skills remain current with evolving technologies and techniques.
  • Facilitate the Skills Transfer programme in support of the wider Cell Team.

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Manage the interface with other departments — Operations, Quality, EHS, Planning, Warehouse, HR — and be accountable for their impact on your areas of responsibility.
  • Share and adopt technical best practice with other Sections and Sites, implementing improvements within your own section.
  • Support all other work processes within the line workflows.

  • Engineering degree or equivalent in Engineering related subject
  • Excellent analytical skills

  • Some experience in statistics & process control tools desirable
  • Experience working with condition-based monitoring technology
  • Able to champion and drive continuous improvement and operational changes.
  • Able to work as part of wider team and share best practices to help other teams.
