Job Description

Overview

Microsoft’s Azure Research conducts pioneering research in the design and analysis of systems that guarantee strong security, safety, and privacy properties to cloud users, and in novel applications that are enabled by emerging security- and privacy-enhancing technologies.

Our team in Cambridge, UK is seeking a highly motivated Senior Researcher to work with us on Project Roma, which aims to design principled solutions to the most pressing challenges in security and privacy of AI-based systems. We are interested in methods at all layers of the stack, including applications, models, runtimes, and hardware.

As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with external and internal research organizations as well as with Microsoft product teams, with the goal of advancing the state-of-the-art and having a large impact on deployed systems.



Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Drive a research agenda to advance the security, safety, and privacy of AI-based systems, including the development of theory, research prototypes, and experimentation;
  • Maintain and expand collaborative relationships with relevant research, product, and business groups inside or outside of Microsoft and provide expertise or technology to them;
  • Provide mentorship by participating in onboarding to less experienced team members and guiding less experienced team members in processes and scenarios, research projects, and their careers.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in with experience in research
    • OR Master's Degree in relevant field AND related research experience
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in relevant field AND related research experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience participating in a top conference in relevant research domain.
  • Track record in research on AI security and privacy, as evidenced by high-quality publications.
  • Expertise with security and reliability of LLMs and agentic systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with product teams is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AI inference serving systems.
