Overview
Microsoft Research Cambridge (UK) is seeking an intern with experience in multi-media design to join an innovative research project at the intersection of artificial intelligence, creativity, and human experience.
Duration: 12 Weeks
Location: Cambridge, UK
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will design envisionments – such as storyboards or videos – that showcase how people can use their personal data archives to curate, collaboratively create, and interactively explore AI-enabled media content focused on personal and collective memories.
A core part of the role involves conducting interviews and/or workshops with diverse participants to uncover user needs, inspire use cases, and understand values and aspirations related to memory and storytelling experiences.

Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a Masters or PhD program in multi-media design, HCI/UX, digital media, or creative storytelling
Media editing skills as demonstrated through a strong design portfolio
Experience in conducting user research (e.g., interviews, workshops) to engage participants and imagine new technology experiences
Ability to turn abstract ideas into compelling visual stories or develop storyboards
Strong communication skills and openness to collaborating across disciplines
Experience using/adapting AI models and understanding requirements for AI data curation (e.g., data annotations)
Familiarity with coding, or a strong motivation to develop technical skills
Awareness of ethical, social, and emotional issues in AI and/ or memory work

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
Experience training machine-learning models
Previous experience working in a multi-disciplinary team with diverse skill sets
Interest in value-sensitive design/ responsible innovation in AI
