Product Technologist

Location: Hybrid: 3 days per week at the Merlin Technical Hub, Surrey, KT16 8PN

We are recruiting for Product Technologist to join our AWESOME Commercial Retail

Team!

As a Product Technologist within our Commercial Retail division, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, legality, and quality of all branded merchandise across our global attractions. You will act as the technical expert for product compliance, working closely with suppliers, buyers, and attraction teams to ensure that every item meets the standards required in each market of sale. This includes managing mandatory product testing, advising on risk assessments, and ensuring all technical documentation is accurate, compliant, and audit‑ready.

You will take accountability for maintaining detailed product data, overseeing compliance record‑keeping, and managing testing requirements across multiple countries and product categories. When issues arise, you will lead thorough investigations, identify root causes, and coordinate corrective actions such as including stock removal or recall where necessary. You will also serve as the main point of contact for Trading Standards or international equivalents, responding promptly and professionally to information requests.

In addition to managing compliance processes, the Product Technologist will provide guidance and training to colleagues on product safety and local buying responsibilities, enabling them to make informed decisions and uphold our standards. Collaboration is central to this role: you will build strong relationships with buyers, vendors, attraction teams, commercial excellence partners, and finance to ensure seamless communication and alignment on compliance matters. You will also oversee the relationship with our third‑party testing provider and ensure efficient processing of compliance-related invoices.

Above all, you will champion a culture of safety, demonstrating a zero‑tolerance approach to failings in quality or legality, and working proactively to protect both guest safety and the reputation of our globally loved brands.

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven experience in a Product Technologist or Product Testing role
• Strong knowledge of international product standards relevant to the categories purchased
• Experience working with overseas supply bases
• Proficiency with Microsoft systems
• Robust organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple categories simultaneously
• Strong problem‑solving capabilities and a proactive approach to resolving compliance issues
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to diverse audiences
