What you'll bring to the team
Electrical Maintenance Engineer
Chessington World of Adventures Resort
Are you an Electrical Maintenance Engineer looking for a role that's genuinely different?
At Chessington World of Adventures, you'll join a specialist engineering team responsible for maintaining and improving some of the UK's most exciting rides and attractions. Working in a safety-critical environment, you'll apply your electrical and mechanical skills to complex systems that you simply won't find in traditional manufacturing, production or facilities settings.
This is an opportunity to develop specialist expertise while working alongside a highly skilled team of engineers committed to keeping our attractions operating safely, reliably and at peak performance.
In return, you'll enjoy a competitive salary, ongoing training and development, Merlin Annual Passes, free attraction tickets for family and friends, 40% off LEGO products, and a work-life balance that many engineers don't expect from a theme park operation.
Why Join Us?
Work on unique ride and attraction systems not found in traditional engineering environments
Develop specialist skills across electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and control systems
Be involved in major refurbishments, ride upgrades and engineering projects
Structured training and development opportunities
Regular weekends off through a planned shift rota
Join a supportive and highly skilled engineering team
About the Role
As an Electrical Maintenance Engineer, you'll be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing complex electro-mechanical ride and attraction systems across the resort.
You'll work on electrical control systems, motors, sensors, drives, instrumentation, ride vehicles, pneumatic systems and associated mechanical equipment. Through effective fault-finding and preventative maintenance, you'll help ensure high levels of ride reliability, availability and safety.
Working closely with fellow engineers, you'll carry out planned maintenance, resolve breakdowns, conduct safety-critical inspections and support ride overhauls, refurbishments and upgrades throughout the year.
No previous theme park experience is required. If you've built your engineering career within manufacturing, industrial maintenance, FMCG, automotive, rail, aerospace, marine, facilities, automation or another engineering environment, we'd love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will vary throughout the operational season, and some duties will involve working at height.
You will:
Carry out safety-critical inspections across rides, attractions and associated systems
Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities
Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults across complex attraction systems
Maintain accurate maintenance records using computerised maintenance management systems
Support preventative and predictive maintenance programmes
Ensure compliance with engineering and safety standards, including HSG175
Support ride availability through effective fault resolution and maintenance planning
Assist with critical spare parts management and stock control
Maintain excellent workshop standards using 5S and LEAN principles
Examples of the engineering activities you'll undertake include:
Fault-finding and repair of electrical control systems, sensors, drives and instrumentation
Electrical inspections of ride control systems and attraction equipment
Motor testing and condition monitoring
Panel modifications and rewiring activities
Strip-down, overhaul and rebuild of attraction vehicles including trains, cars and boats
Rebuilding mechanical brake assemblies
Servicing and resealing pneumatic cylinders
Supporting ride refurbishments, upgrades and major engineering projects
Qualifications & Experience
What We're Looking For
This role would suit engineers with experience in manufacturing, industrial maintenance, FMCG, automotive, rail, aerospace, marine, facilities engineering, automation or other heavy engineering environments.
Essential Requirements
ONC, NVQ Level 3, BTEC or equivalent engineering qualification gained through an apprenticeship or college route
Post-apprenticeship or post-qualification engineering experience
Experience working within a maintenance engineering environment
Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics and technical documentation
Experience using technical manuals, risk assessments and engineering documentation
Full understanding of engineering-related statutory requirements, including COSHH
Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to fault diagnosis
Desirable Experience
Experience within manufacturing, automotive, rail, aerospace, marine, facilities engineering or similar technical environments
Experience carrying out engineering inspections within a regulated or safety-critical environment
Experience supporting reliability-centred maintenance or continuous improvement activities
Experience using CMMS or other maintenance management systems
Don't Have Theme Park Experience?
That's absolutely fine. Previous experience working within a theme park environment is not essential. We welcome applications from engineers who have developed their skills within manufacturing, production, FMCG, logistics, transportation, automation, utilities, defence, aerospace, marine, facilities management or other technical industries.
If you have strong maintenance, diagnostic and fault-finding skills, we'll provide the specialist training needed to work on our rides and attractions.
Shift Pattern
You'll work a structured shift pattern designed to provide engineering cover across the attraction while supporting a healthy work-life balance.
Open Days
06:00 - 14:30
14:00 - 22:30
Closed Days
07:00 - 15:30
10:00 - 18:30 (subject to operational requirements)
Our rota is specifically designed to provide regular weekends off throughout the year, offering a much better work-life balance than many engineers expect from a theme park engineering role.
