This is an exciting opportunity for an Electronics Engineer with a passion for problem-solving to support the development of our component failure analysis capability

Salary: Up to £40,500 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: We trust our people to agree, within their teams, where and when they can be most effective. Our Dynamic Working policy allows individuals flexibility around the hours they work and where they work. Typically for this role you will work 3 days on-site.

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship.

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity for an Electronics Engineer with a passion for problem-solving to support the development of our component failure analysis capability.

We are looking for an Electronics Failure Analysis Engineer to join our team and play a critical role in diagnosing, analysing, and resolving hardware component related issues.

You'll be working hands-on within our highly complex electronic sub-systems, from concept through to full production and beyond. This role offers a blend of fault-finding, laboratory work, root cause analysis, and production support, with opportunities for career development in a dynamic, technology-driven environment.

As part of MBDA’s Electronic Engineering function, you will be part of the PCB Technologists Team who are responsible for providing a technical support service for all internal programs in the UK and working with non-UK teams developing new technologies across all areas of PCB design, manufacture and assembly. This is a unique opportunity to develop an extensive technical skill set unlike anywhere else in industry.

The role:

Working in a supportive environment alongside Technical Experts and Technologists you will work within the function supporting the development of the component failure analysis function. This will require you to -

  • Assess component failures via fault finding, laboratory work and work with supporting departments such as Component Engineering, manufacturing centres, test and design
  • Support the development and evaluation of new processes and equipment for component failure analysis at a national and international level. Working collaboratively with internal and external partners/suppliers, visiting as necessary including international travel
  • Have some understanding of materials, characteristics and processes of circuit card assembly/printed circuit board manufacture and how they influence failures within systems, sub assemblies, and components
  • Undertake training to increase knowledge for the role, both internal and external plus international where required
  • Compile and generate reports and contribute to documented standards within national and international teams

The PCB Technologists are adaptable and determined in providing a service, supporting all aspects of PCB Technology and the Component Engineering, PCB Layout and CCA Manufacture departments. It requires close collaboration with all stakeholders (internal and external) against agreed timescales to meet project deliverables. This role embodies the MBDA core values.

What we’re looking for from you:

Experience of the following

  • Fault finding circuit card assemblies down to component level using electronic test equipment
  • Managing work packages, with the ability to balance cost, quality and schedule
  • An appreciation of Electronic design, component specification, PCB and sub assembly manufacturing processes
  • A track record of on-time delivery along with good verbal and written communication skills
