Job Description

Technical Excellence UK are a relatively small, closely integrated team, which engages with all UK Projects and has a direct influence on the planning for and achievement of the certified products, which provide leading edge capability to our customers & users. The TEX team has a place in helping maintain MBDA’s engineering reputation and in supporting the development of engineers and MBDA’s engineering capability to do this as effectively as possible. There is also the potential for international exposure on multi-national projects.

Salary: Circa £65,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: Typically on site 3 days a week , due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The Opportunity

The role sits within the Technical Excellence team, which is responsible for acting as the final certifier of all MBDA product design, assuring technical excellence, whilst minimising technical risk. The principal role of the Design Assurance Technical Advisor is to assure that the company has sufficient evidence to support its claims for the compliance of its products to the declared technical requirements. This requires engagement with the engineering teams, across the whole of the lifecycle, to ensure that design assurance and certification plans are appropriate, requirements are verifiable, with identified proving strategies and that formal compliance and certification is appropriately conducted and evidenced.

What are we looking for?

  • Ideally from a defence, aerospace or similar background, including general engineering skills.

  • Experience of requirement development and maturation.

  • Experience of Design Assurance, Verification and Certification, including: Development & documentation of the strategies & detailed technical plans for these aspects.

  • Production / assessment of formal design compliance & certification evidence & documents.

  • Experience of the overall product lifecycle.

  • Ability to work and manage in complex, multi-faceted environments and to prioritise effectively.

  • Strong team player with an appetite to support colleagues across a range of programmes to respond to changing priorities.

  • Significant affinity for ownership of issues and a real desire to improve the status-quo.

  • Ability to fact find and investigate issues across a wide range of technical areas.

  • Ability to encourage an environment of co-operation and to coach others, to help develop and spread best practice.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
