Job Description

MBDA is a leading defence organisation. We are proud of the role we play in supporting the Armed Forces who protect our nations. We partner with governments to work together towards a common goal, defending our freedom.

Salary: Circa £39000 depending on experience

What we can offer you:

  • Company bonus of up to £2,500 (based on company performance and will vary year to year)
  • Pension of maximum total (employer and employee) contribution of up to 14%
  • Annual salary review
  • Paid overtime
  • Up to 15 days flexi leave
  • 25 days annual leave (plus holiday purchase)
  • Fantastic site facilities, including subsidised meals, free car parking and gym on site at Stevenage
  • Excellent career progression and development opportunities
  • Flexible working arrangements

Hybrid working pattern: Where possible, we will seek to accommodate a blended approach to on-site and remote working such as two days a week on-site.

The opportunity:

MBDA has a fantastic opportunity for a Cable / Harness Design Engineer to primarily work as the focal point for drawing approvals and first of builds within our growing Interconnects team who design bespoke electrical interconnects/cables suitable for the transmission of power, signal and data within and between subsystems in our products.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone experienced within manufacturing or engineering who is seeking a challenge, wanting to build on their current experience by being the drawing approvals and first of builds focal point for all interconnect designs in the UK.

To do this you will need to interpret Cable Harness assembly drawings and technical documentation to understand how these translate into physical hardware. You will need an eye for detail on the relationship between the technical documentation and the physical assembly to ensure practical, robust, instructions are flowed into manufacturing and suppliers.

What we’re looking for from you:

As the primary drawing approvals engineer and acting as a technical interface to manufacturing we are looking for the following;

  • The ability to define cable assembly construction based upon electrical constraints such as current, screening, signal types, volt drop, EMC and environmental requirements.
  • An appreciation of cable assembly production/process engineering
  • Experience of working collaboratively with other engineering disciplines such as mechanical and electronic design engineers to deliver robust cable assembly design solutions.
  • Strong communication skills to facilitate regular electrical support with all relevant stakeholders
  • Determined individual that is self-motivated with a methodical, logical approach and an appetite to learn and progress while working with peers
  • Ability/flexibility to travel to other locations including international when required

Due to the nature of our work, experience of military Defence Standards and a working knowledge of D38999 connectors in support of cable harness manufacture is highly desirable.
