Job Description:

The Warehouse Lead provides leadership, direction and support for the operating teams in the warehouse. The primary responsibility is to coordinate and direct associates and resources to ensure quality handling, storage and shipping in order to maximize customer service levels, control operational costs, and pursue efficiency and customer service.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Participate as full member of the site logistics group and contribute to the development and direction of the logistics group’s strategies.
  • Coordinate the efforts of operating teams in the efficient warehousing of finished products in a safe, secure and sanitary manner.
  • Work with the Warehouse Operations teams to establish performance standards, goals, measure, control, take corrective actions, and report results as appropriate in all areas of responsibility.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities, suggest improvement and challenge business processes.
  • Be able to understand warehouse processes and systems capabilities enough to develop ideas into reports, scripts or system changes that deliver value-added benefits.
  • Participate in the development of site systems solutions that improve integrating the warehousing and manufacturing sides of the site.
  • Ensure that open communications are established and that opportunities to broaden the scope and responsibility of Warehouse Operations teams/associates are undertaken.
  • Coordinate the activities involved in fulfilling “picked” orders; e.g., maintaining the racked & case pick areas through to the point of filling orders.
  • Participate with all level of operations associates in the implementation of improvement strategies that will help drive the site towards becoming the preferred full-service supply center for the Southeast region.
  • Coordinate all warehouse activities for the current and near future shifts by partnering with the Shift Logistics Operator and Forklift Operators.
  • Assist with training activities as required
  • Promote positive cost-effective activities.
  • Participate in site focus groups and effectiveness teams as appropriate.
  • Participate in warehouse assessment activities.
  • Participate in site safety program and actively look for ways to improve site and area safety.
  • Candidate must be willing to provide support outside normal office hours, including weekends. Other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work a rotating 12-hour shift.

Key Functional Skills/Knowledge

  • Warehousing, logistics or distribution experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Judgement and decision-making skills with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to evaluate, analyze and solve complex problems – strong cognitive abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written & verbal) skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to operate well in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and data base management. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to use mainframe computer system Red Prairie.
  • Familiarity with pipeline management MRP II, inventory control, traffic, accounting, and expediting.
  • Ability to operate MHE (Material Handling Equipment), including but not limited to various types of forklifts, pallet jacks, stretch wrappers, inverters, etc.
  • Associate is responsible for communicating and elevating any quality and food safety concerns to site management.
  • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs.
  • Good depth perception.

Desired Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 2-3 years’ work or military experience (manufacturing environment preferred).
  • 1 year of experience as a manager in a warehouse or experience in warehouse systems is desired.
  • Basic math, reading and writing skills.
