Mars Petcare- Training Manager- Columbus, OH

  • Pay: Based on experience between $89K-99K
  • This site manufactures Petfood

Shift Schedule:

  • Shift: 1st (days)
  • Schedule: Monday- Friday
  • Hours: 8am- 4:30pm
    • Ability to work flexible working hours accommodating varying time zones and operation shifts.

Description of Role:

The Training Manager owns all factory training and capability building anchored in the Education & Training (E&T) Pillar and MSE/TPM methodologies.

What are we looking for?

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education
  • 5+ years experience in manufacturing and in one or more area of plant operations: Supply, Production, Continuous Improvement, Training, HSE and/or Reliability/Maintenance
  • 3+ years’ experience in Learning and Development related roles
  • Facilitation of classroom training and on-the-job training
  • Ability to travel as required between 10%-20% of time with majority of travel being within a region.

Physical Requirements:

  • Can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying (10-50 lbs) and pushing/pulling (50-300 lbs)
  • Frequent bending, stooping, twisting, handling, and gripping.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights, climb stairs, lean over equipment, and operate in confined spaces.
  • Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods
  • Capable of working in hot, cold and wet conditions
  • Proficient in understanding, communicating, reading, and writing in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related area
  • Experience in the development of training programs
  • Technology capable with experience in virtual connections, website interactions and platform co-ordination.

What will be my key responsibilities?

Mars Supply Excellence (MSE) - Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)

  • Lead the E&T Pillar: Act as site Pillar Leader, set strategy based on the site needs, develop pillar members and execute PDCA-SDCA cycle for E&T methodologies.
  • Embed Methodologies: Teach and coach teams on Adult Learning, Train the Trainer, Zero Loss culture, and equipment ownership.
  • Collaborate and support other pillars’ needs to continuously develop site overall MSE capabilities.
  • Project Training Support: Develop and execute training for new plant projects and equipment rollouts.

Operational Training, Skill Matrices & Compliance

  • Close Skill Gaps: Incorporate training into FMOS meetings with key stakeholders to visualize and improve skill gaps based on the losses across all shifts and departments.
  • Govern Standards & Data: Create and continuously improve the Skill Matrix, standardized training records, and compliance tracking.
  • Compliance & Job Analysis: Conduct Job Task Analysis for roles to ensure regulatory and safety compliance.
  • Two Core Programs: Ensure continuous operation of New Associate Onboarding and Revalidation Training.
  • External Partnerships: Coordinate with external training providers and vendors for specialized technical certifications.

Training Center, Content & AV Media

  • Facility Management: Design, operate, and maintain the on-site Training Center, including hands-on equipment mock-ups.
  • Media & Digital Learning: Create training videos, manage AV equipment (tablets, cameras, sound systems), and adopt modern learning tech.

Leadership, Team & Budget Management

  • People Leadership: Manage direct reports, build team engagement plans, and set Individual Business Objectives (IBOs) and Development Plans (IDPs).
  • Budget & Resources: Build and manage the site training budget and allocate materials and trainer resources effectively.
  • Stakeholder Influence: Advise site leadership on training systems, communicate progress across all plant zones, and deliver routine performance reports.
