Site: Victorville, CA

Required Shift:

3 by 5 Rotating Shift Every 90 Days

Successful Applicant will rotate through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Shifts every 90 days

(Shifts may change based on business needs)

Role Description:

The Shift Manager is an operations people leader who efficiently improves Human Safety, Quality, and Conversion Costs while Engaging and Developing talent. The Shift Manager is responsible for the shift performance of a Line or Area that exists within a larger Production organization and has accountability for the business results and capability of this shift within the larger food manufacturing organization. A shift manager is directly responsible for approximately $3 million in Manufacturing Conversion Costs and approximately $100 million in GSV. This manager of people is responsible for delivering operational targets and leading an engaged team of shift-based associates. The Shift Manager owns the Safety and Quality cultures on their shift and have responsibility for delivering on Customer Service targets, own the performance management and development of the associates on their shift, and are responsible for building an effective team and coordinating communications within the production lines. This role leads the shift Triad and is responsible for Mars Supply Excellence (MSE) program adherence. The Shift Manager has a thorough technical understanding of MSE (TPM), the daily management systems (FMOS) and process controls for their lines.

What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Conversion - Manage the efforts of operating teams across the Production Segment in the efficient conversion of materials into quality products in a safe, secure and sanitary manner within the product design specifications and budgets.
  • Change Agent - Recommend and implement changes in methods, equipment, systems and organization, as needed, to assure that the objectives of the line/area are met, and give input and recommendations for such changes by using a Continuous Improvement mindset.
  • Mars Supply Excellence (MSE) –Leads teams through Autonomous Maintenance (AM) Steps 1 - 3 to support the implementation of Autonomous Work Teams (AWTs) across shifts; Lead key connection points and own shift summary data collection validity.
  • Understands losses in their area and prioritizes resources to reduce them.
  • Coaching – Coach Leads and Associates in order to build their functional and leadership capabilities and to drive accountability in Safety, Quality and Food Safety, Autonomous Maintenance, and team engagement.
  • Line/Area Operations – Support and guide Production Leads in coordinating materials, staffing and resources to support line operation and changeovers.
  • Associate Advocacy - Proactively manage associate relations issues in the hiring, training, retraining, development and motivation of front-line Operations associates.
  • Engagement - Drive Associate engagement through a foundation of HPC teamwork and individual accountability.
  • Food Safety and Product Quality – Ensure the ongoing production of safe and defect free products consistent with the principles of Mars. HACCP proficiency is required; this manager owns ongoing training and championing of quality goals and improvements at the area level across shifts.
  • Associate Safety -Analyzes risk and identifies countermeasures to address; drives a relentless focus on safety among teams.
  • Goal Measurement – Follow FMOS process to continually identify top 3 losses. Work cross functionally with the Triad to eliminate these losses.
  • Troubleshooting - Manage/guide the technical area coverage resources for the troubleshooting and repair of process/packaging equipment problems, with the objective of effectively utilizing these resources to achieve desired performance levels.
  • Escalations - Proactively identify risks and opportunities and prioritize and assign resources against escalated issues. Serve as the point of escalation for Shift-Based issues that require next level resourcing to mitigate.
  • Communications - Ensure that open, proactive, and effective communications are established and that opportunities to broaden the scope and responsibility of Operations teams/associates are undertaken. The Shift Manager is a key resource to deliver regular business performance updates.
  • Associate Performance and Development - With the support and participation of the Production Manager, evaluate primarily exempt associate performance. In conjunction with associates’ career goals, create development plans to challenge their potential.

What are we looking for?

Minimum Requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree, preferably in one of the Engineering, basic sciences or business-related disciplines.
  • At least one (1) years of direct people leadership experience.
  • Three (3) plus years business experience working in a Continuous Improvement manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, etc.), Internet software, email.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent lifting/carrying pushing (10-50 lbs) and pushing/pulling (50-300 lbs)
  • Frequent bending, stooping, twisting, handling, and gripping.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights, climb stairs, leaning over equipment and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to stand and/or work on feet for extended periods (minimum eight hours in one shift).
  • Ability to understand, communicate, read, and write basic work-related English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of direct people leadership experience.
  • Five (5) plus years business experience working in a Continuous Improvement manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Thorough technical knowledge of process, equipment, controls and products or ability to develop such knowledge.
  • Ability to convey communications clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to effectively deploy training strategies and to directly train others.
  • Understanding of major functions within the plant and the ability to work directly with all levels and functions.
  • Ability to succeed in an ambiguous environment.
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of HACCP concepts.
  • Experience in plant sanitation practices and procedures.

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is between the range listed below, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position will include variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401k plan, and paid time off benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.

The pay range shown is applicable to all locations listed within the job posting:USD 85,848.00 - USD 118,034.00
