Here's the Scoop – Summary

The position of Sanitation Technician has primary responsibility to provide assistance in ensuring exceptional cleanliness and sanitation of the facility while supporting production and warehouse operations as required to ensure that Champion Petfoods employees can remain healthy and safe. The position operates on a night shift schedule and plays an important role in maintaining sanitation standards that support continuous production.

What a typical day looks like:

• Ensure compliance to Company’s policies, practices and procedures related to Health and Safety, Food Safety, and the Environment
• Job duties are varied dependent on the specialized area of the Kitchen; Special assignments may be created on a case-by case basis to address immediate circumstances
• Accurately follow sanitation standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Dispense cleaning and sanitizing chemicals; and perform chemical titrations
• Perform both wet and dry-cleaning sanitation processes
• Wet cleaning: Wash, foam, scrub and rinse food and non-food transition equipment
• Perform Cleaning in Place (CIP) & High Integrity Process (HIP) cleans during Extrusion Cleans
• Thoroughly clean floors in Kitchen - using brooms, mops, auto-scrubbers, wet vacuums, and other equipment as required
• Return all sanitation documents and tools at end of shift
• Perform overhead cleaning; using dusters and extended brooms, working on ladders
• Empty and clean trash cans and other waste containers
• Clean and sanitize all cleaning tools, and equipment
• Maintain and upkeep sanitation equipment
• Keep accurate records of cleaning performed – sanitation checklists
• Understands when to alert Supervisor and/or Team Leads regarding any sanitation concerns observed throughout shift
• Support production and warehouse operations as required.

What are we looking for?

• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles is preferred but not required
• Ability and motivation to learn to work with various tools and equipment
• Strong attention to detail in all areas of work
• Ability to accurately complete required paperwork in a timely manner
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently, or as part of a team
• Be self-driven and have a “can do” attitude
• Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to pass a Drug & Alcohol and Fit-to-Work test up to 50 lbs
• Ability to clear a Criminal Record Check and provide references

Working Conditions

• Work environment is in a pet food distribution centre, with exposure to dust, noise, and fluctuating temperatures
• Overtime and Saturdays as required
• Working Monday to Friday, Night Shift: 9:00 PM - 5:30 AM
• Must be able to physically inspect company equipment, property, and assets
• Regularly required to work at heights; fall arrest training to be provided by the Company
• Manual dexterity required to perform repairs on various types of equipment, and occasional computer use
