About the role: This role will be working for our Mars Petcare segment, where we make life better for pets and their owners.

Role Title: Category Development Analyst

Location: Melbourne Hours: Full-time, Permanent!

Reporting to: Category Leadership Director.

This role is responsible for leading the Category agenda with our key Independent Grocery and LAR customer partners, as well as analyzing category trends and performance to identify future growth opportunities and formulate recommendations across the market. The Category Analyst will support the Category team in the socialisation of the category vision and in-store principles, as well as with reporting, range reviews, planograms and creating Category Plans which deliver mutual, profitable and sustainable category growth with our customers/Channels.

What you’ll do:

  • Analyse category, customer & channel trends and performance to identify future growth opportunities and formulate appropriate recommendations, ensuring sustainable category growth.

  • Develop and deliver relevant reporting and analysis in Excel and PowerBI to underpin the category leadership agenda and key customer category relationships. Types of reports are Monthly Share, Qtr Perfect Store, Winning at Range Review scorecards and Post implementation review.

  • Work with the Customer Category Leads and cross functionally to socialise the category vision, provide understanding of the shopper, channel & customer trends and quantify category drivers and platforms to inform prioritisation of growth opportunities.

  • Based on global in-Store leadership principles, deliver analysis and support development of local recommendations and solutions to drive Pet Nutrition Perfect store objectives.

  • Day to day management of data sources and master data e.g. Neilson, Iri, etc and category tools.


Your unique ingredients:

  • Graduate calibre, with experience in a blue chip FMCG/consumer products business with a category & customer understanding and analytical skills.

  • Experience of working and delivering results in a blue chip FMCG/ consumer products business.

  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret data from a mix of data sources and translate insights into relevant strategies and tactics (actions / initiatives) and execute with our customers in a clear, simple and engaging way.

  • Commercially focused with the ability to build effective relations and influence decisions, having the confidence to lead and use data to reinforce your opinions.

  • Strong IT skills and the ability to work with data, reporting and category tools.

  • In-store and/or Customer experience and understanding of how to develop engaging and actionable category solutions for the customer.

  • Experience preferred in areas such as (but not exclusive to): Shopper Insights, Consumer and Customer Marketing, Field Sales, Merchandising or Account Management.
