Job Description

About the job

Fleet Technology plays a critical role in shaping the future of Maersk’s vessels by translating strategic ambitions into tangible design and technology choices. The function operates at the intersection of engineering, operations, sustainability, and digital innovation, with a clear mandate to maximize value creation across the vessel lifecycle.

This role is focused on the new vessel design value proposition, where early design decisions have the greatest impact on performance, reliability, energy efficiency, safety, regulatory compliance, and total cost of ownership. The position contributes to defining, maturing, and delivering machinery‑related design and technology choices that ensure Maersk’s newbuild vessels are future‑ready and aligned with long‑term fleet strategy.

Key Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership & Newbuilding Project Delivery

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of highly experienced engineers supporting Maersk’s newbuilding projects.
  • Own and oversee machinery discipline input across Maersk’s newbuilding portfolio, ensuring alignment with fleet strategy, operational requirements, and regulatory framework through all project phases from preliminary design through to vessel delivery.
  • Drive effective cross‑functional collaboration with other engineering disciplines and key stakeholders to ensure integrated and high‑quality newbuild outcomes.
  • Ensure all machinery designs and equipment selections comply with class rules, international regulations, and Maersk internal standards.
  • Continuous improvement; contribute to the development, maintenance, and governance of machinery‑related technical standards, guidelines, and best practices.

2. Sale & Purchase (S&P) Evaluation

  • Provide technical leadership in evaluating sale and purchase opportunities as part of Maersk’s fleet renewal strategy.
  • Conduct condition assessments, lifecycle cost evaluations, and technical due diligence with clear, fact‑based recommendations to support investment and divestment decisions.

3. Maker Management & Supplier Engagement

  • Act as the primary owner of machinery maker management, ensuring consistent evaluation, selection, and performance monitoring of key suppliers.
  • Lead technical discussions with OEMs, define and negotiate machinery specifications, and ensure alignment with Maersk’s long‑term fleet and technology strategy.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a candidate who combines strong technical credibility with structured thinking and the ability to lead in complex, cross‑functional environments. The ideal candidate is motivated by shaping future vessel designs and creating tangible operational value through high‑quality engineering decisions.

Key qualifications and capabilities include:

  • Proven experience leading or coordinating a technical team within machinery, marine engineering, or a related discipline, ideally in a newbuilding or large‑scale project environment.
  • Solid understanding of machinery systems and their impact on vessel performance, reliability, and lifecycle cost.
  • Experience delivering technical input across multiple project phases, from concept design and specification through execution and delivery.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and with a wide range of stakeholders, balancing technical depth with clear and purposeful communication.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, class rules, and engineering governance in a maritime or industrial context.
  • Experience engaging with OEMs and suppliers, including technical evaluation, specification alignment, and performance follow‑up.
  • A structured and analytical approach, with the ability to translate complex technical topics into clear recommendations to support decision‑making.
  • Comfort working in environments with competing priorities, where trade‑offs must be assessed and decisions made with long‑term fleet implications in mind.

It is an advantage if you bring:

  • A background in marine or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience contributing to or shaping technical standards and best practices.
  • Exposure to sale and purchase evaluations, technical due diligence, or lifecycle cost analysis.

Above all, we are looking for someone who demonstrates ownership, curiosity, and a collaborative mindset, and who is motivated by technical excellence and continuous improvement in support of Maersk’s future fleet.
