Job Purpose/summary

  • This position will be responsible for process execution, data management and compliance delivery for indirect taxes for all Maersk entities. Also ensuring indirect tax compliance and its reporting is delivered accurately and timely and is fit for purpose in a data-led and digitised global environment.
  • Ensuring compliance / delivery of the indirect tax portfolio under assigned jurisdictions and entities. Team members are allocated a portfolio of jurisdictions and entities of size and complexity appropriate to level of experience.
  • Supporting the continuous improvement of processes, controls, and data quality, including effective use of technology, to manage risk and cost relating to Indirect taxes, also adapting to the increasing demands for real-time, data-led transactional reporting.
  • Supporting audit needs of various jurisdictions/ entities under given portfolio.
  • Successful candidates will work with multiple stakeholders like finance and advisory counterparts, service providers, government auditors and other professionals in carrying out their responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare Indirect tax returns for non-complex/high risk including processing, analysis, exception checking & reconciliations in relation to indirect tax returns and tax payments.
  • Prepare and maintain various tax support workpapers accurately and timely as required by taxing jurisdictions to ensure all tax filings deadlines are met.
  • Data extraction and collection for all ITX returns where ITX Ops are responsible for the preparation of the return
  • Maintenance of evidence to support tax filing positions and future audits.
  • Identify, initiate, and support the continual process improvement to ensure the quality and efficiency of processes and systems within the tax function.
  • Supporting audit needs of various jurisdictions and ensuring organization is audit ready
  • Monitor and control indirect tax compliance process workflow and related timeline
  • Investigate and plan action on Indirect tax account aging balances.
  • Ensure Indirect tax accounts balances are maintained and undertake GL reconciliations
  • Support and contribute to finance transformation and related tax projects
  • Support on the registration and deregistration of entities
  • Review and research international tax law for tax planning, accounting and compliance purposes.
  • Collating data and preparing reports, reconciliations, and responses to information requests from management, tax authorities and auditors.
  • Ensuring effective, pro-active communication with external and internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the transition team and actively participate in all transition activities in accordance with the transition playbook.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree or similar with experience as below
  • 3 to 5 years of post-qualification experience in one or more of the following fields, in their order of relevance:
    • Preparation/ review of Indirect Tax compliance process.
    • Providing data/ information for international tax compliance and tax audit support.
    • Process management and improvement.
  • Experience gained in:
    • Shared services or Centre of excellence of large MNCs.
    • Large MNCs
    • A combination of big 4 advisory firms with one or more of the above.
  • Knowledge about Financial & Accounting systems and processes
  • Experience with ERP systems (preferred SAP) is required and awareness of or experience with tax compliance & reporting technologies and effective process & control operation.
  • Willingness to learn new applications and explore smart ways of working.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with different levels of stakeholder, both internal and external.
  • Detail orientated, proven commitment to high quality delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Flexible, able to work to deadlines and to prioritise effectively.
  • Team player and should be a team-oriented person

Key measures

  • Impact analysis on business outcome.
  • Key decisions on indirect tax adjustments/ tax calculations, tax submissions, tax filing for VAT and VAT audit support which will be taken on basis of execution of this role.
  • Tax leakage and error controls to be managed by this role.
  • Efficient in identifying control lapses and working with relevant teams to ensure healthy indirect tax processes.
