Safety & Nautical Superintendent
Maersk Fleet Management & Technology (FMT) is responsible for end-to-end ship management of all Maersk-owned container vessels, with operations anchored in key global hubs including Copenhagen, Singapore, Manila, and Mumbai.
We are currently looking for a driven and career-oriented professional to join our Fleet Safety team as a Safety & Nautical Superintendent, based in Mumbai. This is an opportunity to play a key role in strengthening safety, compliance, and operational excellence across a global fleet.

Role Overview & Impact
As a SAFNAU Superintendent, you will play a critical role at the intersection of vessel operations, safety leadership, and strategic fleet performance. This position offers a unique blend of hands-on operational responsibility and influence over long-term safety and compliance strategy across the fleet.
You will act as a key enabler in safeguarding our people and assets, ensuring that vessels under Maersk Fleet Management & Technology (FMT) operate safely, reliably, and cost-effectively while meeting the highest global maritime standards.
Key Responsibilities & Performance Expectations
- Take ownership of the overall Nautical, Safety, and Compliance landscape across assigned vessels, ensuring continuous adherence to regulatory and company standards.
- Lead and drive safety and compliance initiatives, translating insights into practical improvements onboard and ashore.
- Ensure timely review, closure, and quality assurance of reports within the Safety Management System (SMS), contributing actively to continuous improvement of SMS content and effectiveness.
- Act as a focal point for incident investigation, including personal safety incidents and near misses, driving thorough root cause analysis and ensuring robust corrective and preventive actions are implemented fleetwide.
- Provide direct vessel support, to address critical safety concerns, support investigations, and reinforce safety culture.
- Play an active role in the Incident Management Team, contributing to decision-making during critical situations.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with Flag State, Port State, Classification Societies, and Recognized Organizations, ensuring seamless compliance, certification, and resolution of nautical and safety matters.

We are looking for
- Shipboard experience as a Senior Deck Officer or Senior Engineer, with strong knowledge of vessel operations, nautical aspects, and onboard challenges.
- Demonstrated experience or interest in regulatory compliance and safety management, with the ability to apply requirements practically onboard.
- Good understanding of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and shipboard processes, with a focus on continuous improvement and simplification.
- Exposure to risk management, audits, and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and preventive actions, is an advantage.
- Proactive, collaborative, and confident in driving safety and compliance initiatives across vessels and stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills, empathy, and cultural awareness to effectively support seafarers and teams.
- A clear passion and accountability for ensuring the safety of people, assets, and the environment.
