The Lubricants, Paints and Chemicals procurement category (LUPAC) is at the heart of this change and pioneering industry-leading initiatives to improve ship machinery energy efficiency, emissions profile and reliability. We seek a driven and ambitious Lubricant & Chemicals Specialist to join our world-class technical team in Singapore to assist in running some of the groundbreaking projects that are changing our industry.

The successful candidate will join the technical arm of the LUPAC team alongside our experienced tribology, chemistry and engineering experts, to support vessel operations and expediate the progress of various initiatives the team is running. This includes identifying optimal products for application, resolving product performance and equipment maintenance issues, management of the fleet’s used oil analysis program, and supporting industry-leading research initiatives. You will play a significant role in executing Category Management strategies that deliver measurable impact to our client’s bottom-line results. You will be working closely with teams of multinational, independent professionals across different geographies and your communication skills and capability to work autonomously will ensure efficient delivery of best-in-class services to our clients.
The role involves a high degree of interaction with buyers, supplier specialists, Technical Managers, Chief Engineers, and Ship Engineering Specialists. Good interpersonal and relationship management skills are essential. You are further expected to develop a deep understanding of our key stakeholders’ maintenance and lubrication needs in order to offer expert advice and develop new initiatives for reducing cost and complexity
While the main focus of the role is on lubrication, the role will also support the paint and chemicals categories with advice on product choice, optimal application, and developing systems to effectively organize and guide vessel crews. The successful candidate must be capable of researching various products and applications and quickly gaining an understanding of unfamiliar concepts in order to advise our clients. Experience of marine chemicals and paints usage would be considered advantageous but is not a prerequisite for the role.
The role would be well suited to a chemistry expert, machinery engineer or a marine engineer with a broad understanding of lubrication. Hands-on experience with lubricant testing and formulating or Marine or Heavy Plant engineering would be considered advantageous but not essential.

Key responsibilities
- Provide first-level technical support on product selection and usage to vessel crews, superintendents, and procurement
- Develop and maintain vessel Lubrication Charts
- Manage fleet-wide Used Oil Analysis program and drive improvements
- Ensure compliance with environmentally acceptable products (VGP)
- Optimize cost and reduce complexity across lubricants, chemicals, and paints
- Contribute to Maersk’s decarbonization agenda through innovative solutions
- Lead ad-hoc projects to drive cost savings and operational efficiencies
- Build strong stakeholder relationships across global teams
- Willingness to travel globally, including limited time onboard vessels and attendance at industry conferences

Educational & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering/Chemistry
- 3–5 years’ experience in lubricants/additives, marine engineering, OEMs, or oil analysis labs
- Strong knowledge of lubricant formulations and tribology (preferred)
- Understanding of marine machinery and maintenance (advantageous)
- Relevant certifications (e.g. STLE CLS/OMA, ISO18436-4, ICL MLA) are a plus but not required
