APM Terminals

At APM Terminals, growth is not only about scale it is about doing things thoughtfully, safely, and together. As we continue to invest in large-scale terminal infrastructure across the globe, we are strengthening our global Project Execution capability. We are now looking for a Head of Portfolio – Capital Investment Projects who brings clarity to complexity, confidence to decision-making, and care to leadership.

This role is for someone who enjoys shaping direction while staying close to delivery. Someone who balances structure with agility, applies Lean thinking to eliminate waste and increase flow, and believes that strong relationships, clear standards, and empowered teams are the foundation of successful projects.

What this role is about

As our Head of Portfolio, you will hold end-to-end responsibility for a global portfolio of large capital investment projects, including new terminal developments, expansions, and integrations. You will ensure that projects are delivered in line with business strategy and within agreed HSSE, cost, quality, and schedule parameters while continuously strengthening how we execute projects across APM Terminals through continuous improvement and Lean portfolio management principles.

You will work closely with terminal leadership, regional and global functions, and external stakeholders, acting as a trusted partner and senior decision-maker throughout the full project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

Portfolio & delivery leadership

  • Oversee initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure of multiple large-scale terminal construction projects

  • Lead portfolio reviews, balancing prioritization, risk, and organizational capacity using a Lean, value-driven mindset

  • Provide clear, integrated reporting and insights to executive leadership and board-level stakeholders

Financial & governance accountability

  • Develop and manage portfolio budgets and funding strategies

  • Monitor financial performance and value realization

  • Ensure strong governance, project controls, and contract management (e.g. FIDIC-based frameworks)

People & capability leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Project Directors and Project Managers, including on-site leadership

  • Define project organizations and build teams aligned to project needs

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Standards, safety & excellence

  • Drive APM Terminals’ project execution standards, controls, and reporting frameworks

  • Champion HSSE performance together with HSE teams and ensure compliance across contractors and suppliers

  • Promote consistent use of project controls systems, including PMWeb

Stakeholder engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal leadership, government authorities, contractors, consultants, and partners

  • Anticipate and resolve critical dependencies and emerging risks that may impact first commercial activity

Who you are

You are a senior project leader with a calm, confident presence and a strong sense of responsibility. You combine technical credibility with empathy, structure with pragmatism, and strategic thinking with hands-on engagement. You naturally apply Lean principles to decision-making and enjoy leading diverse, international teams through complex change.

Your experience and background

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in delivery-focused, large-scale project environments

  • Proven leadership of major infrastructure projects (> USD 100 million) with full accountability for commercial, people, safety, time, cost, and quality

  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g. PMBOK), project controls, and Lean ways of working

  • Experience in business leadership and transformation environments

  • Comfortable working across cultures and geographies

  • Location: Asia

Education

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or similar
