About the Role
As the Geographical Security & Business Continuity Manager for Mainland China, you will serve as the primary Security and BC subject matter expert across Maersk's operations in China. You will lead loss prevention, supply chain security compliance, and incident response while building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners. This role demands a deep understanding of China's regulatory environment, security landscape, and logistics ecosystem, combined with the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Loss Prevention & Threat Management
- Lead loss prevention strategies across Mainland China, covering cargo, operations, and personnel security.
- Conduct foresight and threat assessments for all sites and business proposals, including loss trend analysis.
- Monitor and report on security performance dashboards, delivering timely incident management support.
- Lead or support internal security investigations, including cargo theft, fraud, and misconduct, maintaining chain of custody and investigative integrity.
- Support Illicit Cargo and Contraband initiatives in alignment with the Special Operations team.
Supply Chain Security & Compliance
- Drive compliance with supply chain security programmes including TAPA, C-TPAT, and AEO across all China sites and operations.
- Rollout and monitor the S&BR standardisation and management framework ensuring adherence to regulatory and quality standards.
- Ensure Duty of Care (DoC) security protocols, including travel e-learning, high-risk travel, and residence security requirements, are implemented and monitored.
- Ensure all sites maintain current Business Impact Analysis (BIA) and Business Continuity Plans (BCP).
Business Continuity Management
- Drive the Predict, Prevent, Respond, and Recover framework across Mainland China.
- Track and report BCM KPIs and documentation readiness metrics across all Mainland China sites, ensuring scorecards are current and accurately reflect operational resilience status.
- Assess and monitor emergency response capabilities across the cluster, identifying gaps and driving continuous improvement.
- Design and facilitate BCP Table-Top Exercises for identified critical sites, testing response plans, validating assumptions, and embedding a culture of preparedness.
- Ensure all sites maintain current, tested Business Impact Analyses (BIAs) and Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) aligned with CEN and regional standards.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as primary Point of Contact (PoC) for all Security and BC matters across Mainland China, including for KCMs and business leaders.
- Provide S&BC leadership and advisory support to various business segments and local business communities.
- Engage with government agencies, customs authorities, and industry bodies on security and compliance matters.
- Report and update regional and HQ management teams on security performance and emerging risks.
People & Capability
- Mentor and upskill local Security and BC professionals, including business partners, ensuring competency and relevance.
- Lead and monitor S&BR execution through cluster functional buy-in, supporting test and improvement initiatives.
- Rollout S&BR standardisation and management frameworks across cluster sites, ensuring quality compliance and operational effectiveness.
What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements
- 6+ years' experience in Security at country or Area/global level, with significant exposure to Mainland China.
- Strong background in Loss Prevention and/or cargo security within logistics, supply chain, or transport sectors.
- Demonstrable knowledge of supply chain security compliance frameworks: TAPA, C-TPAT, and/or AEO.
- Deep understanding of China's security landscape, regulatory environment, and business culture.
- Fluent in Mandarin (spoken and written) and English, both essential for this role.
- Proven stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
- Experience conducting threat assessments and delivering fact-based risk mitigation advice.
- Highest level of personal integrity and professional ethics, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
- Education or certification in Security management, risk management, or related field.
Preferred / Advantageous
- 4+ years' experience in Business Continuity at country or Area level.
- Certification in BCM (e.g. CBCI, ISO 22301 Lead Implementer) or security (e.g. CPP, PSP).
- Prior experience working with customs, law enforcement, or regulatory bodies in China.
- Familiarity with HSSE Management Frameworks and DoC protocols in a multinational environment.
- Experience with Maersk or large multinational logistics/shipping organisations.
- Additional regional language skills (e.g. Cantonese) are a plus.
