Job Description
Customs Delivery Agent – JL2

We are looking for a Customs Delivery Agent to join our team in Mauritius and play a key role in delivering compliant, timely, and accurate customs solutions for our customers.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Focal Point for Customs Services – Mauritius
Act as the central contact for all customs-related matters within Maersk Mauritius.
Provide guidance to internal departments (Operations, Customer Service, Finance, Sales).
Support regional Maersk teams regarding Mauritian import/export requirements.
Escalate and resolve customs-related risks, delays, or compliance issues.
Represent Maersk during customs audits and regulatory inspections.
2. Customs Clearance & Regulatory Compliance
Prepare, verify, and submit customs declarations via TradeNet.
Process Bills of Entry for imports and exports in accordance with Mauritius Customs regulations.
Ensure correct HS classification, valuation, duty calculation, and tariff application.
Liaise directly with Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) officers regarding inspections, queries, and dispute resolutions.
Monitor regulatory changes and ensure compliance with updated customs laws and procedures.
Manage duty and VAT payments and ensure timely cargo release.
Process and manage Plant Import Permits, EUR.1 Certificates, SADC Certificates, COMESA Certificates, and MCCI Certificates in compliance with international trade agreements and regulatory requirements.
Ensure accurate documentation, timely submission, and adherence to preferential trade rules for duty exemptions and tariff reductions.
3. Management of Maersk Service Providers
Coordinate and supervise third-party customs brokers, transporters, port handlers, and inspection agencies.
Monitor performance and compliance of outsourced service providers.
Ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
Verify accuracy of documentation prepared by service partners.
Maintain strong working relationships with port operators, warehouses, scanning facilities, and government authorities.
4. Stakeholder & Client Coordination
Advise clients on customs regulations, licensing, and import/export restrictions.
Ensure all documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, BLs, certificates of origin, permits) is complete and compliant.
Coordinate with shipping lines, freight forwarding teams, and transport providers.
Minimize demurrage, detention, and storage costs through proactive clearance management.
5. Risk Management & Operational Efficiency
Identify compliance risks and implement preventive controls.
Maintain accurate customs records for audit and reporting purposes.
Improve clearance turnaround time and documentation accuracy.
Ensure adherence to Maersk global compliance standards and code of conduct.
6. Job Costing, Billing & Workflow Management
Ensure all costs are accurately captured, recorded, and accounted for in line with company policies.
Prepare and issue billing files in a timely manner to support smooth financial operations.
Collaborate with finance teams to ensure transparency and compliance in billing processes.
Who We Are Looking For
Qualifications & Experience
2–3 years experience in customs clearance and Mauritian import/export processes.
Experience using TradeNet.
Ability to prepare Bills of Entry independently.
Strong HS classification and valuation knowledge.
Experience with trade certificates (EUR.1, SADC, COMESA, MCCI).
Background in logistics, freight forwarding, or shipping is an advantage.
Fluency in both Creole and English is mandatory
