Job Description

Reporting to the Eastern Africa Area MD, the position of Tanzania Country Manager requires strong commercial leadership qualities to drive growth and profitability in a highly complex yet interesting business environment with vast business opportunities. Based in Dar es Salaam, the role leads the Maersk organization in Tanzania, and manages teams in Dar es Salaam, Tanga and Zanzibar. The Tanzania Country Manager is an integral part of the Area Leadership Team.

The Country Manager is the senior-most Maersk leader in Tanzania and is accountable for the end-to-end leadership, strategic direction and sustainable performance of the country business. The role owns the country P&L and leads commercial growth, Logistics & Services (L&S), first-mile operations, depot activities, fleet management, customer experience, people performance, operational excellence, safety, compliance and stakeholder engagement.

The Country Manager translates Area and regional priorities into a clear Tanzania strategy, builds a high-performing leadership team and represents Maersk with customers, employees, partners, government institutions and regulatory bodies. The successful candidate will be a commercially astute and externally oriented leader who can connect customer needs, operational capabilities and market opportunities while protecting Maersk's license to operate and reputation.

The mandate: Lead the Tanzania business as an enterprise leader: grow profitably, deepen L&S capabilities, strengthen execution across first mile, depot, fleet operations, other logistics solutions, and build trusted relationships across the logistics ecosystem.

  • Attract, retain and develop strong talent; establish succession coverage for critical leadership and specialist roles.
  • Ensure effective performance management, capability building, employee engagement and organisational health.
  • Lead change with empathy and discipline, communicating context and expectations clearly through periods of transformation.

Governance, risk, safety and compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Tanzanian laws, regulatory requirements and Maersk policies, standards and Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain oversight of operational, financial, legal, customs, trade compliance, security, safety, people and reputational risks.
  • Champion a strong safety culture across offices, depots, fleet, first-mile operations and third-party activities.
  • Ensure effective crisis management, incident response and business continuity readiness.
