Job Description

At EY, we’re all in to shape your future with confidence.

We’ll help you succeed in a globally connected powerhouse of diverse teams and take your career wherever you want it to go.

Join EY and help to build a better working world.

Senior Executive – Operational Decision Intelligence – London

The opportunity

At EY-Parthenon, our unique combination of transformative strategy, transactions, tax and corporate finance delivers real-world value – solutions that work in practice, not just on paper. Benefiting from EY’s full spectrum of services, we’ve reimagined strategic consulting to work in a world of increasing complexity. With deep functional and sector expertise, paired with innovative AI-powered technology and an investor mindset, we partner with CEOs, boards, private equity and governments every step of the way.

EY-Parthenon’s Operational Decision Intelligence team is a rapidly growing part of our business that combines deep Operational Research, modelling and analytics expertise with a commercial consulting mindset to help clients address complex strategic and operational challenges.

We work with major corporate clients, government departments and other public sector bodies, advising them on complex strategic, commercial and operational decisions. Our projects often involve managing multiple stakeholders and high degrees of complexity and uncertainty. Decision making in this environment requires strong client management and communication skills, in addition to a rigorous analytical mindset and excellent data handling skills.

Although the team is largely London-based, we operate as a national team and many of our engagements involve multinational clients. This role will most likely require some travel within the UK and could require overseas working from time to time.

This role will specifically require Operational Research skills with experience in optimisation and/or workforce modelling and analytics.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Leading delivery throughout the life-cycle of an assignment – requirements definition, specification, data collection, solution design, development, testing, documentation, implementation and user training.
  • Leading the team delivery of projects, managing and supervising the project team and supporting junior team members to develop their skills and technical expertise.
  • Work directly with clients to design and build complex models/algorithms and employ insightful visualisation to translate the solution into easy-to-understand outputs.
  • Identify opportunities for utilising AI to innovate and/or drive efficiency within projects.
  • Manage clients’ expectations in relation to deliverables.
  • Identify and manage risk on the assignment, involving Director / Partner appropriately in its resolution.
  • Support senior team members in developing new business and offerings.

What we look for:

  • A strong academic background, e.g. Degree in Operational Research or equivalent in a numerate or analytical subject.
  • Technical familiarity in one or more of the following areas:
    • Optimisation and analytics (e.g. network, supply chain or resource allocation)
    • Workforce modelling and analytics (e.g. demand, supply and capacity forecasting)
  • Direct experience with Operational Research techniques such as discrete event simulation, mathematical programming, system dynamics, forecasting or scenario analysis.
  • Experience applying analytical and modelling techniques to support optimisation, workforce planning or other complex operational decision-making challenges.
  • Strong understanding of business issues and how advanced analytics can be used to support businesses to make better decisions.
  • Experience in managing projects, from defining requirements, designing project plans and managing performance against plan through the project lifecycle.
  • Effective communication skills to be able to work collaboratively with a team, in a concerted effort towards delivering work products of the highest standard as well as coaching team members to get the most out of them.
  • Previous evidence of working with clients and model users to identify their particular needs, and evidence of problem-solving previous client problems.

Ideally, you'll also have some of the following:

  • Experience in SQL Server, MS Excel and VBA. Experience of modelling languages such as R or Python is a plus
  • Experience of employing visualisation tools to display outputs in a compelling way.
  • Experience of user interface development e.g. using React.
  • Sector experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Government
    • Consumer products
    • Logistics
    • Utilities
    • Oil & Gas
  • Some experience in coaching more junior staff to maximise performance.

At EY, you will be part of a global network of professionals working on high-profile and impactful projects. We offer:

  • Continuous learning and development opportunities
  • Exposure to a wide range of industries and economic issues
