The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity to join our International Tax and Transaction Services (ITTS) practice as a Director within our market-leading Energy team. You will play a key leadership role in one of the firm's most strategically important sectors, advising some of the world's largest energy companies, infrastructure investors, and private equity funds on complex international tax matters, cross-border transactions and transformational projects.

The Energy sector is undergoing unprecedented change, with the energy transition creating significant opportunities across traditional energy, renewables, infrastructure and emerging technologies. As a Director, you will help clients navigate these challenges while driving growth and innovation within our Energy practice.

Working alongside highly regarded Partners and an exceptional team of international tax professionals, you will be responsible for shaping client relationships, originating new opportunities and delivering market-leading advice on some of the highest-profile transactions in the sector.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and expand strategic relationships with key Energy sector clients, acting as a trusted adviser to senior management, tax directors, investment committees and wider stakeholder groups.
  • Drive business development and revenue growth through originating, converting and delivering significant international tax and transaction opportunities.
  • Develop and execute market initiatives that strengthen EY's position as a leading adviser within the Energy sector.
  • Lead complex cross-border advisory engagements, ensuring technical excellence while maintaining a pragmatic and commercial approach.
  • Collaborate across service lines, sectors and geographies to identify and deliver integrated solutions to clients.
  • Take ownership of engagement economics, profitability and risk management across a portfolio of clients.
  • Support the development and execution of the Energy ITTS growth strategy, contributing to broader market and practice leadership initiatives.
  • Build and maintain an extensive internal and external network, enhancing EY's profile through thought leadership, industry participation and market presence.
  • Act as a role model and mentor, developing high-performing teams and supporting the progression of future leaders within the practice.
  • Sponsor and champion innovation, technology adoption and transformation initiatives across the business.

Skills and Attributes for Success

  • Strong commercial mindset with a proven track record of developing and growing client relationships.
  • Demonstrable success in originating, converting and delivering significant advisory opportunities.
  • Deep technical expertise across UK and international corporate tax matters.
  • Strong understanding of international tax issues affecting Energy, Infrastructure and Renewables businesses.
  • Established market credibility with the ability to influence senior client stakeholders.
  • Exceptional client relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience leading large, complex, multi-jurisdictional engagements.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, including developing teams and fostering an inclusive, high-performance culture.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to identify emerging market trends and convert these into client opportunities.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage significant engagement portfolios and deliver strong financial performance.

To Qualify for the Role You Must Have

  • ACA / CA / ACCA / CTA qualification, Tax Inspector with full Technical Training Course, or relevant Law qualification.
  • Strong international and UK corporate tax experience gained within a professional services firm, industry or legal environment.
  • Significant experience advising multinational businesses and investors on international tax matters and transactions.
  • Proven business development and client origination track record.
  • Experience leading large client accounts and managing senior stakeholder relationships.
  • Deep understanding of the Energy sector, including traditional energy, renewables, infrastructure or wider energy transition markets.
  • Experience managing and developing high-performing teams.

Ideally, You'll Also Have

  • An established profile within the Energy market, with a demonstrable external network.
  • A track record of publishing thought leadership, speaking at industry events or representing your organisation in the market.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams across multiple jurisdictions.

What We Look For

We are looking for exceptional leaders who combine technical excellence with commercial acumen and a passion for building long-term client relationships. You'll be energised by creating growth opportunities, mentoring future talent and helping shape the future direction of our Energy International Tax practice.
