Job Description

Shaping trust and confidence in the financial markets

Programme overview

The role of an auditor is continually evolving, and as Shapers of the future we are at the forefront of change. While our purpose to bring trust and confidence to society and financial markets remain unchanged, technology, including AI, is transforming how we deliver audits. On the Audit Apprenticeship programme, you’ll conduct deeper analysis, exercising stronger judgement and provide more meaningful insights for EY teams and clients globally. Along the way, you’ll work towards a globally recognised qualification with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) or the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).

Core skills for success

  • Analytical thinking – using data, technology and professional judgement to deliver strong insights others can rely on.

  • Collaboration – thrive in inclusive teams where every voice and perspective strengthens outcomes.

  • Integrity - acting with confidence and accountability to protect trust in business and society.

  • Digital, data & AI fluency – applying digital tools and analytics to improve efficiency and focus on higher-value work.

  • Adaptability - responding to changing client needs as priorities and technology evolve.

What you will be doing

  • Gaining a wider variety of experience to transform you into a business advisor. One day you could be talking to companies to understand their businesses, the next day you could be developing the audit strategy with the team.

  • Working in teams, we analyse data, both financial and non-financial, and test business controls to determine whether financial statements are accurate.

  • Learning from your team as they coach and guide you in your day-to-day tasks.

  • Working across a portfolio of clients assigned to you. This will involve a mixture of hybrid working - travelling to client offices, working in the EY office and occasionally from home. It will vary by client and will depend on the requirement of the team.

  • Studying towards a Professional Qualification, which requires attending in-person courses, self-study and sitting exams.

  • Attending EY learning courses to continually learn new skills.

  • Regularly meeting your support network including your Career Counsellor, and Apprenticeship Coach to track your performance and help you progress your career.

  • Participating in a range of other activities that help you build your network and support the performance of our business.
