Job Description
Join us in a career defining position in our Madrid office for a strategic Communications Manager who will help establish ClientEarth as a trusted voice in Spain and the wider region and build on our existing global reputation as a leader in using the law to protect people and planet. With a focus on Spain and the Mediterranean, the role will combine a global outlook on our work with specific knowledge and expertise on the key audiences we need to reach across Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Portugal, as well as decision-makers in Brussels. This is a great opportunity to create and execute hard-hitting, strategic communications and media campaigns to enhance the impact of some of our highest profile and most innovative legal work in Europe.
Meet your Manager
In this role, you will be managed by Helen James who joined ClientEarth in 2023 and is based in London. Helen is our Global Head of Communications and is an experienced and highly motivated communications leader with substantial experience in leading global strategies, campaigns, and teams within not-for-profit organisations.
Main Duties
- Develop and deliver an impactful communications strategy to support the strategic objectives of ClientEarth in Spain and the Mediterranean.
- Provide expertise and leadership on communications aimed at target audiences based across Spain, the Mediterranean and at the EU level
- Develop, implement and measure innovative, high-profile and effective communications campaigns across a range of media and channels to support the programmatic objectives of ClientEarth in Spain and the Mediterranean
- Scan upcoming ClientEarth legal work, highlighting work that matches organisational and communication priority areas

- Work to develop ClientEarth spokespeople across the region and provide media training and briefings to ensure spokespeople remain on message
- Manage and update the ClientEarth Spain website

Role requirements
- Fluent (CEFR level C2) in Spanish (essential)
- Fluent (CEFR level C2) in English (essential)
- Experience of creating and implementing cross-platform communications strategies, ensuring coordinated, coherent messaging through all channels that shift corporate or government policy (essential).
- Knowledge of Spanish media outlets, with contacts in key publications (essential).
- Knowledge and understanding of EU politics (desirable).
- An interest in environmental issues such as climate change, and their social ramifications (essential) and an awareness of the climate campaigning landscape at both grassroots and NGO level (desirable).
