Role Purpose
Reporting to the Head of Upstream, as Project Manager, you will be responsible for the project management and delivery of new upstream investment opportunities on behalf of Bord Gáis Energy. This will require the successful candidate to take ownership of the planning, safe execution, and delivery of all upstream capital projects.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the delivery of new Net Zero development projects, including but not limited to Green Hydrogen, Green Ammonia, Energy storage, New Zero Power Generation, Carbon Capture & Storage, Biomethane and Biofuels.
- Lead project delivery in collaboration with design, permitting, procurement and construction technical leads / subject matter experts.
- Responsible for management of project costs, risk, communications, procurement, and stakeholders.
- Support all upstream business development and net zero targets through the project management of activities associated with grid analysis, land acquisition, planning application oversight and technical feasibility (up to €1bn spend)
- Analysing and addressing project risks, and regularly sharing lessons learned.
- Provides performance feedback regarding allocated resources working on projects.
- Preparation and presentation of project delivery plans to present to Executives, Management team, Board and Shareholders
- Work closely with a number of disciplines to deliver optimal solutions across external and internal resources including, Finance, Trading, Legal and Technical
- Informing and driving consistent commercial thinking across the projects and relevant business areas; working closely with supporting functions
- Maintain good working knowledge of key commercial and regulatory value drivers for delivering upstream assets in the Irish Market

- Self-motivated and proactive
- Proven experience and knowledge of energy project development – conventional generation, renewable energy projects or zero carbon projects.
- Ability to step back from the detail and see the bigger picture. Ability to prioritise, plan, manage and deliver timely and effective business readiness projects, providing best practice for the delivery of business change and support the framework and governance for continual improvement in change delivery
- Tenacious, resilient, proactive and resourceful approach to issue and risk resolution and contingency planning
- Comfortable dealing with ambiguity, Ability to work under pressure, prioritising effectively
- Commercial awareness and strategic level problem solving in complex environment selecting the best option from many possibilities
- Project management expertise in planning methodologies
- Management of diverse resource of commercial / Business development / change / financial teams for successful delivery of growth opportunities
- Understanding of regulatory and operational market landscape with and ability to grasp the key commercial drivers in relation to existing assets and new transactions, including what key drivers for value enhancement.
- Setup of investment case governance structures
- Experience of financing / funding, investment strategies and business case development for conventional and renewable development and operational projects, gas and other net zero projects
- Effective communicator with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organisation - confident presentation/communication skills with all levels of internal and external stakeholders, good influencing and networking skills.
- Skilled at producing high quality output documents
- Contract negotiation experience required
- Ability to work independently to deadlines, seeking guidance from other team members when required.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- 3rd Level Qualification in relevant discipline with relevant market knowledge – i.e., regulation, market modelling
- Project Management experience across conventional, renewable and energy enabling infrastructure assets
- Understanding of regulatory and operational market landscape with an ability to grasp the key commercial drivers in relation to delivering new assets, including what are the key drivers for value enhancement
- Excellent analytical skills and detail oriented particularly with regards to development risk, uncertainty, numerical analysis, legal documentation and written reports
- Experience of working from own initiative, taking ownership of work and motivating colleagues to achieve objectives or projects
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to disseminate complex information in a simple and transparent manner
- Able to manage involvement in a number of simultaneous initiatives, deliver work to agreed deadlines, and work well with a variety of individuals
- Have an enthusiastic and tenacious approach with a strong commitment to learning
