THE TEAM

Gas Trading Operations is a young, energetic and dynamic team consisting of full-time employees in combination with talented student assistants to add flexibility in skills and working hours to the team. We are a mix in nationalities, personalities, and expertise which we aim to build into a diverse and strong high-performing team.

We take pride in enabling the trading engine to run smoothly and efficiently by bringing our best every day.

THE ROLE

Your role as a Gas Trading Operations Specialist will give you hands-on front office experience – understanding gas market fundamentals and making trading decisions will be a significant part of your role, alongside operational tasks. Given that the team has a unique responsibility of balancing gas positions for British Gas Trading portfolio in the UK gas market, you will be required to undertake shift work. The work related to the shift will consist of analyzing the UK and European gas market to make the best and most optimal balancing (trading) decisions in the market. Therefore, you will need have an analytical and structured approach to new market information and be motivated by having to react quickly to sudden changes in the market conditions. The shifts are structured in 5 weeks shift rotations having 1 week with day shifts, 1 week with evening shifts and every 5th weekend (Our Singapore office will cover night shifts).

Moreover, the role requires that you are keen to understand the operations and systems that drive the trading engine. You thrive when you coordinate, prioritize and execute on a variety of complex tasks as you will work between trading and the rest of the organization to optimize our daily operational work and implement new products and markets.

Market and system knowledge, training and educating across the team, improving procedures to minimize risk and increase efficiency, coordinating with project stakeholders will, amongst others, be your tasks and eventually your areas of expertise. This will be balanced against the daily procedures and problem solving with our traders.

The competences you bring to the team should include a good sense of logic, numbers, and the ability to acquire new knowledge and having a proactive mindset. You believe that continuous improvement of yourself is the key to your success. You have a strong ability to stay calm under pressure, and you are keen to be the best in everything you do. You are persistent in pursuing progress, and aware of when and how to nudge colleagues and stakeholders to ensure your deliverables.

Your Background & The Requirements

  • You hold a relevant MSc degree (Economics, Engineering, Mathematics or similar)

  • You can cooperate & communicate on all levels

  • You speak and write English fluently

  • You have experience in being able to work on and lead multiple projects in a self-motivated, flexible and autonomous manner

  • You can link your personal and professional skills with these requirements and will add that together with your CV in your motivation letter

  • Is familiar with ETRM systems, or thrive when working with IT systems as a specialist and to give input for improvements

  • Takes pride in discovering and eliminating operational risk w.r.t. people, systems, and markets

  • Contributes to a fun, accepting and professional work atmosphere
