The Team

The Business Management (Trading, Analytics & Algos) team is core in managing Centrica Energy and key for implementing the strategy which ensures a sustainable growth.

You’ll be part of a team of Business Managers and Product Owners, where we constantly strive to support and optimize the business, and where all team members add to a positive working environment, characterized by different personalities and skillsets, with great opportunities to make your mark and influence decisions.

The team’s purpose is to be the “right hand” of the business, with the responsibility of supporting our strategy and commercial product implementation. Furthermore, an important role is to ensure operational resilience of systems, process and controls in support of trading activities. The team is characterized by a high knowledge level and professionalism.

The Position

As Product Owner for the Trading area, you’ll set direction for the products in support of our long-term strategy of being the No. 1 Renewable Energy Trader in Europe and world-class globally. You will get a chance to be involved in the future of energy and work in a vibrant business environment with some bright minds and skilled people looking to re-shape the energy industry and move towards a low carbon economy.

In this role you will:

  • Translate power and gas trading visions and ambitions into a product vision and product roadmap, based on customer needs, business value, and market trends

  • Be accountable for ensuring that the product provides value to both customers and the business

  • Collaborate with the business stakeholders to ensure product backlog priority, transparency and taking on new projects, initiatives and tasks

  • Collaborate with your agile IT development team to ensure development and continuous delivery of increments, for successful implementation

  • Be responsible for alignment and effective communication to deliver a successful product

  • Make data-driven decisions, monitor performance, and iterate on features

For us it’s important that you understand both the “when” and the “why”, leaving the “how” to other roles. We have an international environment, and you will be working across our main geographical locations (Aalborg, Copenhagen and London. Occasionally with our office in Antwerp).

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone to join our team who can add enthusiasm and brings experience which might be different from “the usual”. Planning, communication and delivering business value is key skills in the Product Owner position within Centrica Energy. Being a diplomate and manage to align everyone’s expectations towards the IT deliveries and business outcome is also key.

Whether you are an experienced Product Owner or this is a new role for you; if you are structured and have experience working in a complex environment bringing solutions to problems and creating value – then this role offers you a great opportunity to grow and learn on a personal as well as a professional level.

The candidate might be fresh out of university or have some experience. The ideal candidate has studied Economics, Information Technology, Business Administration or similar business-oriented education.

We imagine that our new colleague has experience in managing business development or projects, but it is not a requirement. First and foremost, you take responsibility, you can reflect over strategy, business goals and your product domain. You have good communications skills and can present a plan that brings our strategy to life.

Furthermore, we expect our new colleague to:

  • Show strong subject and domain leadership to build credibility among stakeholders

  • Provide vision, goals and context for the product, understanding the products business value

  • Prioritize and manage the product backlog and deliverables, in a structured manner, within the product domain

  • Communicate the business value and strategy fit

  • Ensure business implementation and product quality

  • Be a strong facilitator of workshops, stakeholder meetings and business presentations

  • Show engagement in our purpose
