Overview

Are you ready to be part of an exciting, life changing strategy for Centrica?! We have an incredible opportunity as Head of Programme – Centrica Armed Forces.

The Head of Programme will focus on building, nurturing and developing the end-to-end environment, policies and procedures to attract, onboard and support long term personal growth of Ex-Forces into our Centrica family. The programme recruits a significant number of Service Leavers, Veterans, Reservists, Military Spouses, Partners and represents a best-in-class civilian career offering to the ex-forces community.

You will be accountable for all aspects of the Centrica Armed Forces strategy as well as maintaining Centrica’s external presence across the UK wide Military support networks. You will have day to day, programme management of internal and externally facing workstreams and ownership to deliver the strategy. You will lead all day-to-day delivery activities across different internal and external centres of excellence/SMEs.

As the face of our Ex-Forces Network you will work with and further develop solid long-term relationships and partnerships with external organisations, such as the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) Forces Employment Charity (FEC), Forces Families Jobs (FFJ), as well as service, regimental associations, Reservist units and wider ex-forces networks.

Ideally you will have first-hand knowledge and experience of pathways and support networks open to potential Forces leavers and the wider military community. Being able to navigate these networks is a must, to access the pipeline of talent and bring the outside in. Creating positive disruption and challenging the status quo through your thorough knowledge of the Forces leaving opportunities is highly desirable.

Identifying the transferrable skills that a diverse Armed Forces Community (including service leavers, reservists, veterans, military spouses & partners along with adult cadet instructors) can bring to Centrica and providing them with a continuous handrail throughout their candidate and employee journey will ensure success in this role.

The Role:

You’ll develop the strategy and vision of the Forces Pathway translating into workstreams and a coherent narrative.

You’ll manage the overall configuration of the Pathway programme; establishment & maintenance of programme cadence, workstreams and governance procedures. You will also need to establish relations with internal and external centres of excellence including recruitment and talent to develop and implement solutions aligned to the delivery of each project/workstream. You will manager high-level programme planning and scheduling through to detailed task planning, in particular the Centrica Forces and Athletes Leadership placement Programme.

Along with researching best practice in industry you will report on programme effectiveness and utilise data insights to report on the programme and inform change.

Establishing a governance structure to monitor progress against the baselined programme plans by ensuring the broader achievement of the high-level project milestones to time, cost and specification will be key - as will managing senior stakeholders and sponsors. Managing risk and any issues as they arise, escalating to senior business or technical roles as required, you will also monitor the performance of the broader programme goals and recommend schedule changes, cost adjustments or resource additions.

Lastly, you will ensure deployment & developmental plans are appropriate, tailored and timed to specific groups to further the engagement agenda internally and externally.

You will need to have an abundance of ambition and focus to deliver game changing strategic solutions and drive business performance. Through your creative thinking you will link the programme to the business growth and profitability objectives. Your confidence will allow you to actively encourage diversity of thought to drive a noticeable change in culture. Collaborating across boundaries and seeking to understand others and working with them will achieve collective goals.

Key skills:

  • Knowledge and experience of the military community, pathways and UK wide support networks open to the Armed Forces

  • Demonstrable and extensive experience of the operational levers that drive resource planning and talent developments strategies in order to align the Pathway with Centrica wide business needs

  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary projects/competing priorities

  • Knowledge of the broader Centrica business activities and HR Centres of Excellence

  • Forces HR experience advantageous and/or programme management experience

  • Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills - active listening, negotiation and persuasion

  • Line management experience

  • Comfortable in senior stakeholder management

  • Ability to step back from the detail and see the bigger picture

  • Effective networking, collaboration and partnering, both internally and externally
