We have a fantastic new opportunity for a Head of HSE – Home Solutions. In this role you will Lead and enable HSE to ensure high standards are attained, continually improved and that legal and regulatory obligations are met across all of British Gas – Home Solutions operations and performance units.

Location: With our Flexible First working arrangements we empower our colleagues to work in a way that best suits them – meaning location doesn’t need to be a barrier. This role will be mostly based at home with occasional meetings required at our Centrica sites.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support the HSE Director as required by the business needs and provide timely and appropriate escalations.
  • Develop and implement the HSE strategy for BG – Home Solutions.
  • Ensure continuous improvement in HSE performance across all operations and performance units (inclusive of field and non-field activities).
  • Undertake strategic reviews of current performance and operations.
  • Deliver a single approach to HSE Management that meets the organisation needs, statutory duties and the expectations of key stakeholders.
  • Develop and deliver HSE management systems, processes, procedures to ensure continual improvement, industry best practice with alignment to Centrica Group.
  • Provide assurance to the HSE Director and BG SLT, by means of appropriate monitoring and intervention, that BG fulfils its obligations under HSE legislation.
  • Support the development of BG Just Culture as the organisation rapidly expands and changes.
  • Offer competent advice on HSE matters to the company and its staff.
  • Ensure that all sites are compliant with legal HSE obligations.
  • Develop and instigate HSE initiatives.
  • Ensure continual improvement and develop, in conjunction with the HSE Director, HSE targets, objectives and KPI’s.

Leadership

  • Proactively engage, challenge & influence colleagues to deliver HSE compliance and drive continuous improvement in HSE performance.
  • Competent to effectively oversee 3rd party contractor HSE compliance and performance.
  • Roll-models the Centrica values and adopts new ways of working to drive improved decision-making, productivity & effectiveness.
  • Support internal stakeholders and acts as escalation point for BG HSE issues.
  • Analyse a wide range of BG HSE performance metrics including data from myHSES to inform areas of focus; oversees that HSE activities, actions etc are completed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate HSE performance reporting to BG SLT, LRECS, HSE, SESC, Centrica etc.
  • Collaborate with Centrica & other BG HSE teams to share best practice and maintain HSE standards.

Contractor Management

  • Oversee the review and update of HSE contract terms with 3rd parties, especially those conducting fieldwork on BG’s behalf to ensure these are fit for purpose.
  • Ensure that the scope and quality of HSE content in contractor MBR packs and other reporting meets BG’s requirements.
  • Develops, documents, and implements consistent processes for monitoring and controlling of 3rd party contractors’ HSE performance.
  • Ensures that adequate documentation is produced to evidence the monitoring & control of 3rd party contractors including HSE action tracking following MBR meetings.

Colleague

  • Ensures all call handler / centre colleagues etc are supported and enabled with their HSE requirements in the office and working from home.

Who are we looking for?

  • Relevant experience in managing HSE at a senior level with direct reports.
  • Experience of working in a similar field.
  • An understanding of the regulatory sector and the management of risk.
  • Experience in managing performance of 3rd party contractors.
  • Strong self-drive and resilience to overcome challenges and deliver results.
  • Relevant experience of building a strong and consistent culture of safety throughout an organisation.
  • BSc (Hons) Occ H&S / NEBOSH Diploma / NVQ Level 5/6 or equivalent.
  • Barrier-based root cause analysis training (Sologic or equivalent).
  • Incident investigation experience in a recognised method i.e. Topset.
  • HSE Auditor qualification preferred (ISO 45001 and/or14001).
  • Chartered member of IOSH (or actively working towards).
  • Evidence of current CPD.
