We trade power, gas, LNG, and energy attributes and connect producers, suppliers and off takers in the wholesale energy markets - and we provide our clients with the best route-to-market services available to the market today with physical and financial settlement approaches. We’re a total of 850+ colleagues from over 50 different nations, located in 8 different offices around the world. At our London office, where this role is located, you’ll be joining our international office with over 300 dedicated energy specialists.
As the Head of Credit Risk you will be responsible for overseeing a team of credit risk professionals across London and Denmark offices and managing the credit risk across the Centrica Energy business ensuring the monitoring, control and mitigation of credit risks whilst supporting the development of business strategy.
The role holder will be required to take decisions regarding credit risks within delegated competences and provide management with a motivated opinion regarding decisions to be taken at higher levels. You will ensure a high level of motivation, professionalism, knowledge and exemplarity within the credit risk team and support the Head of Risk (Centrica Energy).
The role is based out of our central London office (close to Marble Arch) with 4 days per week typically based within the office. There is also a requirement for occasional travel to other Centrica Energy offices (e.g. Denmark (Copenhagen & Aalborg)) and this is expected to be once every 2-3 months.
What you’ll be doing:
Lead a team of 9 credit risk resources across London and Denmark, providing guidance, mentorship, and training to enhance their performance and development
Ensure high level of integrity of credit systems regarding exposure capture
Monitor and analyse credit exposures, identifying potential risks and opportunities for risk mitigation
Demonstrate an insightful understanding of financial accounts to review and approve credit assessments and scorings prepared by team members and set appropriate limits within group credit appetite
Implement and continually push the development of state-of-the-art information systems ensuring a thorough view of credit risks in cooperation with the dedicated IT and specialist quantitative teams
Collaborate closely with trading desks, finance teams, and other stakeholders to assess credit risks associated with new and existing transactions
Regularly review and update credit risk models, methodologies, and tools to enhance accuracy and effectiveness
Provide strategic guidance on credit risk management, recommending actions to mitigate risks and optimize trading opportunities
Stay abreast of market trends, regulatory changes, and industry best practices related to credit risk management in commodity trading
Represent Centrica in negotiations with external trading counterparties regarding credit matters and demonstrate an excellent knowledge of trading documentation and credit clauses
Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for senior management and stakeholders, summarising credit risk exposures, trends, and mitigation strategies.
We have a few must-haves:
Extensive experience in credit risk management from within either a commodity trading house or investment banking environment, with an in depth understanding of market dynamics, key energy market players and trading practices
Prior energy knowledge is preferred, especially in EMEA Power and Gas financial and physical structures (gas storage, transport option, PPA, batteries, etc.)
Leadership experience required due to the size and different location of the team, with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing resources
Proven track record of developing and implementing effective credit risk policies and procedures
Deep knowledge of credit risk assessment methodologies, financial analysis, and risk modeling
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and present findings in a clear manner to senior management
Sound understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks relevant to commodity trading
Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities with a strategic mindset.
