GDPR Assurance Lead

Leicester with FlexFirst hybrid working

Overview

British Gas Business (BGB) is the leading provider of energy to SMEs in the UK and is focused on helping its customers energising a greener, fairer future.

Working as part of the BGB Conduct & Governance team, The GDPR Policy Lead will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and overseeing the company's data protection and privacy policies to ensure compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other relevant data protection laws. This role requires a strong understanding of data protection principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

You will be required to visit our Leicester and Windsor offices.

The Role

You’ll lead the development, review, and updating of data protection policies and procedures in alignment with GDPR and other applicable regulations. To help do this you will collaborate across all functions to deliver timely resolution and mitigation to ensure consistency of customer/business compliance with GDPR. You will partner with compliance and legal and you ensure our data processing is in line with data protection laws and regulations.

Producing regular reporting is part of your role along with carrying out assessments and recommending corrective actions and tracking completion.

You will be responsible creating and maintaining documentation related to GDPR. Proactive identification of GDPR failures along with mitigation plans to protect the business and customers is also critical. Lastly, you will establish processes for managing data, rectification, and deletion requests.

The Person

Ideally you will have energy industry experience and have collaborated with stakeholders. You will have a demonstrable track record of advising and challenging stakeholders to achieve conduct and compliance objectives. GDPR experience is highly desirable.

You will have good analytical and problem-solving skills to identify areas for improvement and drive process optimisation. Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.

A track record of collaboration and prioritising plans to manage and deliver work effectively according to wider business priorities and strategy.
