About the role

The role holder will be part of the New Mobility Technology directorate, working to enable a greener, more sustainable and resilient transport system of the future, for goods and people, with the aims to:

  • Stimulate innovation in the transport sector.
  • Create new transport markets.
  • Transition to new transport system.
  • Maintain UK’s position as world leading innovator, decarbonising transport for the benefit of the society.

To achieve these aims, we apply a holistic systems approach to innovation, bringing together the inter-related components of a successful innovation programme to maximise impact and leverage initiatives:

Enabling deployment of automation through removal of barriers and transfer of knowledge to industry through collaboration and trial design.

Supporting the maritime industry through free port innovation, becoming smart and transitioning to clean maritime.

Decarbonisation of transport across modes in energy evaluation/selection and through large scale implementation and deployment planning, working with Government and industry sectors in Road, Maritime, Rail and Aviation infrastructure.

Design and develop future traffic management and integration guidance through working with Government, local authorities and technology companies. Enabling open markets, transforming future intelligent transport.

Develop an end-to-end logistic understanding, recognising the value of freight to unlocking investment to support the UK economy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for analysis and horizon-scanning activities to help identify new, innovative opportunities, primarily in transport and clean mobility sectors.
  • Provide technical ownership of projects relating to clean mobility or more effective transport solutions on behalf of a range of commercial and government clients.
  • Work collaboratively with customers, project partners and other industry/government/academic stakeholders to understand their requirements in relation to the transition to clean mobility.
  • Deliver impactful analysis and reports to customers in a range of areas relating to clean mobility.
  • Work closely with colleagues, to contribute to the successful delivery of projects. For areas of individual expertise, provide technical guidance and leadership.
  • Support in business development by identifying opportunities, supporting the appropriate teams to prepare proposals and bidding activity as required.
  • Represent the CPC at relevant industry events, conferences and meetings where and when appropriate.
  • You may be required to undertake any other reasonable duties to support the Catapult in achieving its strategic outcomes and ensure effective business operations.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Relevant engineering or physical sciences discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in a transport industry or relatable role (e.g. supply chain, operating company, consultancy, research and technology organisation).
  • Experience of working in a flexible, project-focused environment, requiring pro-active internal communication.
  • Excellent communication and written skills, appropriate for publicly published documents and reports, with the ability to communicate complex concepts to expert and non-expert audiences.
  • Proven ability to establish relationships and work with a wide range of external stakeholders (e.g. industrial, government, academic).
  • A self-starter, able to work without supervision and take project level decisions.
  • Comfortable to teach, guide and coach others in technical tasks on a range of projects and delegate appropriately where individual areas of expertise allow.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, and ability to turn into focused outputs.
  • Numerate with excellent data analysis skills.
  • Flexible, with ability to contribute to multiple projects at the same time and pick up new skills/capabilities as required for different projects.
