About the role

BT operates one of the UK's most critical subsea cable estates. Working within BT Subsea means contributing to the protection of the UK's domestic and international connectivity, while playing a key role in the evolution of BT's national and global network infrastructure.

BT is committed to ensuring its subsea networks remain resilient, available and ready for the future. As a Subsea cable system engineer, you will play a vital role in safeguarding this critical infrastructure.

You will take part in the day-to-day operations across BT's subsea cable systems, carrying out maintenance and operations of various systems and providing expert technical knowledge to support the wider subsea team along with a wide range of engineering tasks associated with the subsea network

What you will be doing

Act as a member of the Subsea Engineering Team dealing with Field/beach engineering activities which may include installation, repair, testing, surveying and any Subsea engineering tasks that may be required.

Be able and willing to work away from home for extended periods and in varied and challenging environments, which may include working in and near water, at Sea on ships or boats and in Subaqueous environments such as rivers, estuaries and lakes.

Oversee the operation, maintenance, and performance of submarine cable systems, ensuring safety and integrity across associated power management and cable protection systems.

What you'll need to succeed

Essential

  • Fibre network build and repair, fibre jointing
  • Optical Testing and fault Investigation
  • Optical Transmission Equipment Operations.


Desirable

  • Subsea cable installation and repair, jointing
  • Subsea Fault locating (Optical and Electrical).
  • Subsea Network Operations and Management.
  • Power feed Equipment Operations.
  • Working within an engineering team, displaying excellent time management skills and the ability to follow direction.
  • Use of hand & power tools
  • Flexible with working hours, although typically covering between 8:00am – 4:00pm
  • Working safely and abiding with Health & Safety policy, procedures and the Health & Safety at work Act
