About the role

Salesforce sits at the heart of the BT Consumer Telco Capabilities delivering the Enterprise Product catalogue, CPQ and Commercial Order Management for the Home Portfolio. This is an amazing opportunity to be a Software Engineering Practitioner in what is arguably the UK’s largest Consumer Telco platform.

As a Software Engineering Practitioner, you will be part of a wider Agile team delivering the ongoing business transformation across the BT Consumer Brands as well as the day to day operations of the platform in life.

What you’ll be doing

As a Software Engineering Practitioner focused on Salesforce Communications Cloud, you will be:
• Manages the implementation of the Consumer Telco Capability roadmap meeting the needs of both Consumer and Digital transformations.
• Working closely with cross functional teams to define solutions that balance short term business objectives with the long-term transformation goals.
• Leading technical decision making at the component level, defining component technical architecture, standards and best practices as required.
• Providing clear communications within the team and to wider stakeholders on progress, risks, issues etc. ensuing transparency and facilitating informed decision making.
• Developing 'best-in-class' engineering solutions that are well-defined, modularised, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored, scalable and reusable.
• When required, independently researching, designing and writing new software. Refining and rewriting as necessary.
• Performing deep dive analysis to identify issues, solving complex problems by performing coding, debugging, testing and general troubleshooting.
• Driving an engineering culture that fosters innovation and creativity while delivering high quality products with measurability, predictability and reliability.
• Evaluating, implementing and maintaining high-quality tools to ensure continuous delivery and developer productivity.
• Designing and implementing engineering and operational excellence initiatives, implementing metrics and processes for regular assessment and continual improvement.
• Implementing ways to improve working processes within the area of software engineering responsibility, such as avoiding and reducing technical debt.
• Having a clear view at all times on technical debt and plans to resolve.
• Mentoring and coach other software engineers, helping to improve the team's abilities as an expert in own area.
• Championing, developing and sharing with team, knowledge on emerging trends and changes in software engineering relevant to the area.

Essential Skills / Experience

• Technical knowledge and awareness of Telco BSS, CRM and Order Management.
• Technical expertise in developing and operating a high volume critical business application. Preferably a previous Salesforce based implementation. Wider Opensource skills also desirable.
• Awareness and experience of the full Software Development Life Cycle and modern software engineering principles including use of AI. Ideally on the Salesforce platform.
• Full versed in Software Development Concepts. Ideally in the context of a large scale Salesforce implementation.
• Hands on experience working in a software engineering squad across multiple geographies and time zones to deliver high quality software though collaborative and agile ways of working.
• Experience of being part of an accomplished In Life team for a business critical application. Covering release quality gates, change, incident and problem management processes etc.
• The ability to train, coach and develop a team of junior software engineers.

It is preferable you will already have Salesforce experience and some certifications in the following areas.
