Why this job matters

role sits within the Signalling and Roaming Design Team, which is part of the Mobile Core Design department within the Mobile directorate of Networks. This is a major enabling Directorate within Technology, with responsibility for network design, capacity planning, strategy decisions, site and infrastructure.

The Signalling and Roaming Design Team has responsibility for signalling functions in the core network, including STP, DSR, SCP, NRF, Signalling Firewall systems which are key components in providing Voice, Data and Value Added services including 4G, 5G, WiFi, and International roaming and their associated network management systems.

You'll be part of that picture, being a design lead actively analysing and making decisions, closely working with other teams within Networks and Mobile Core Design, to Design and deliver solutions within the Mobile signalling core, thus enabling services for the customers of EE, BT, and multiple other brands. The responsibilities of the role are highly challenging and complex, but the learnings gained and the rewards achieved, are extremely technically and personally satisfyingand this team has built the best performing network in the UK since 2013, and was first to launch both 4G and 5G. We are specialists in this industry so other business units and departments will come to us for advice and consultancy regarding what is possible - a space that is always expanding

What you’ll be doing

  • Deliver deep technical and repeatable Signalling Design solutions that achieve customer requirements driving positive outcomes​.
  • Guide partnerships with business and operational stakeholders to ensure the successful transition from Design through Delivery and to Operational Acceptance.
  • Implement robust recommendations, proposals and scope of work documents (including creating and maintaining robust Design documentation) for group engagements while also identifying critical dependencies and gaps​.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and provide advice on a specific set of technologies to help senior leadership shape the long-term direction of solution architecture strategies​.
  • Deliver complex, strategic initiatives that are a part of the company's overall commercial Strategy.
  • Champions, continuously develops in role as a domain expert and shares with team knowledge on emerging trends and changes in solution architecture.

What you'll bring (Skills/Experience)

Mandatory

  • Solution Architecture: Strong track record of designing and planning mobile core network solutions in the role of a designer or planner of business-critical, high-availability / high-throughput systems and networks;
  • Solution Design: Excellent knowledge and experience of Mobile Core Network elements and protocols in the areas of (i) Core network Signalling nodes including STP, Diameter DRA, SIP Session routers, 5G SBA SCP/SEPP; (ii) Design or planning of Signalling and voice interconnects, MVNO networks and services, International roaming, and other value added services;
  • Product Roadmapping: Experience of working and managing relationships with suppliers and third-parties, of product/feature selection, and of delivering those products into a production environment;
  • Requirements Gathering: Ability to analyse requirements and clearly document and articulate recommended solutions.
  • Technology Deployment: Ability to manage interfaces with the Network Control, Delivery, Project, Security and Operational communities, to ensure the successful transition from Design through Delivery and to Operational Acceptance.
  • Performance Monitoring: Experience of producing network traffic and system reports, and input into regular into the domain reporting.

Nice to have

  • Cloud Computing: Knowledge and experience of Design and deployment of Mobile signalling solutions in Cloud environments.
  • Member of a professional body e.g. Institution of Engineering and Technology.
  • Ideally, a degree in a relevant engineering discipline would be useful to this role.
