Job Req ID: 63265

Posting Date: October 2, 2026

Function: Cyber Security

Location: Budapest, Hungary

Salary: We believe in open conversations. If selected, salary details will be shared with you ahead of your interview, so you have clarity from the start.

About the role

  • Specific business area: Managed Security & Cyber Ops.
  • Impact of the role: The Cyber Security Professional operates within a traditional Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) Security Operations Centre, supporting the day-to-day management of customer next-generation firewall environments, including technologies such as Fortinet and Palo Alto Networks. The role focuses on operational activities such as implementing smaller, standard changes; monitoring and responding to security and network incidents; conducting technical investigations; and contributing to root cause analysis and service restoration. Work is performed in line with established processes, customer requirements, and change controls. The role does not include solution design, architecture, or the implementation of complex changes, which are owned by the appropriate engineering or design teams.
  • Operating from 24/7/365 within our Cyber Security Operations Centre (SOC). Shift work will be required to cover 24x7 operations.
  • Link to strategy: Show how the role supports organisational priorities.

What you’ll be doing

  • Monitor, analyse, and respond to events and alerts across BT and customer environments.
  • Work within a 24x7 Security Operations Centre (SOC) environment, supporting continuous security monitoring and incident response activities.
  • Perform initial triage and analysis of security and network alerts, following established processes and applying critical thinking to determine when involvement from relevant specialist teams is required.
  • Work collaboratively with incident response teams and other stakeholders to ensure issues are addressed effectively.
  • Investigate and resolve reported incidents.
  • Manage and deploy simple, standard changes to customer next-generation firewall environments in accordance with approved change records, documented procedures, and operational controls.
  • Escalate incidents when technical boundaries are met to third line.
  • Support operational relationships with customers, suppliers, third parties, and internal stakeholders to deliver a professional security service.
  • Maintain accurate records of investigations, actions, and outcomes in accordance with operational procedures.
  • Contribute to operational reporting, service quality, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Contribute to maintaining ISO/IEC 27001 compliance by activities such as evidence gathering, process reviews, and continuous improvement activities across Cyber Security Operations to ensure controls remain effective and aligned to the ISMS.

What you’ll need to succeed (Skills & Experience)

Technical Knowledge

  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles, emerging threats, and security operations.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, LAN/WAN, operating systems, the OSI model, and associated security controls.
  • Practical knowledge of next-generation firewall technologies, preferably Fortinet FortiGate and Palo Alto Networks, with an understanding of firewall policies, security profiles, NAT, VPNs, routing and centralised management platforms.
  • Familiarity with network security concepts, including remote access, DMZs, network monitoring, intrusion detection, and web security.

Experience & Skills

  • Security operations experience, ideally within a SOC or NOC environment.
  • Experience in data analysis, intelligence reporting, and risk or incident management.
  • Experience investigating firewall, connectivity, and security incidents using logs and available telemetry, identifying contributing factors, documenting findings, and supporting root cause analysis.
  • Experience implementing and validating simple, standard firewall changes through approved change management processes.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, follow documented processes, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong operational discipline, including clear ticket updates, accurate technical documentation, effective shift handovers, and timely escalation when defined technical or service boundaries are reached.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with a commitment to developing personal technical capability, seeking and applying feedback, sharing knowledge, and identifying practical improvements to operational processes.
