About the role

This role sits within Customer Solutions Design, supporting a large, well known UK retail customer with the design and evolution of their wireless network estate.

The role plays a key part in ensuring secure, resilient, and high performing wireless solutions that support critical retail and operational services. You will work closely with delivery teams, security, operations, and customer stakeholders to design solutions that are right first time and fit for scale.

This role directly supports BT’s strategic pillars of Build, Connect, and Accelerate by enabling reliable connectivity, improving customer experience, and supporting transformation across the retail estate.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design and assure enterprise wireless (Wi Fi) solutions for a large UK retail environment.
  • Translate customer and business requirements into clear, supportable wireless designs.
  • Produce and maintain high quality design documentation, including HLDs and LLDs where required.
  • Work closely with delivery, security, and operations teams to ensure designs are deliverable and supportable.
  • Participate in design reviews and technical governance, providing clear recommendations and options.
  • Identify risks early and work collaboratively to mitigate them before implementation.
  • Support retrofit designs, upgrades, and improvement initiatives across the existing wireless estate.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the design community.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Design and assure wireless solutions for a large UK retail environment.
  • Translate customer and business requirements into clear, supportable wireless designs.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Experience working in a large retail or multi‑site environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to customer premises.
  • Exposure to wireless security concepts (authentication, segmentation, integration with network/security platforms).
  • Familiarity with design governance or assurance processes.
  • Awareness of wider networking concepts (LAN, WAN, IP routing) that interact with wireless designs.
  • Experience contributing to continuous improvement or standardisation initiatives.
