Why this job matters
As a Commercial Lawyer in our UK Public Sector team, you’ll play a vital role in supporting BT’s Business unit. You’ll provide first-class legal, commercial, and contractual services to help us achieve our strategic goals. From drafting and negotiating complex customer contracts to advising on regulatory risks and managing subcontractor agreements, your expertise will help us deliver for our customers and protect BT’s interests.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead legal support on medium-complexity bids and assist senior lawyers on high-complexity deals.
- Draft and negotiate customer and subcontractor agreements, including strategic change control arrangements.
- Provide clear, pragmatic legal guidance to maximise opportunities and manage risk.
- Advise on disputes, new initiatives, and legislative changes.
- Promote compliance and risk management across the business.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders and external legal providers.
Skills and Experiences
- Qualified Lawyer (NQ upwards) or proven relevant experience as a commercial lawyer across the public sector.
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to balance risk and reward.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to influence and manage senior stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, pragmatic, and solutions-driven team player.Eligible for DV security clearance (UK citizenship and 10+ years continuous UK residency required).
- Proven experience in commercial contracts and legal advice in fast-paced environments.
- Preferred: Telecoms/Technology sector experience and public sector contract knowledge.
