Job Description

About the role

  • This role sits within BT International's CTIO organisation and provides principal-level architecture leadership for the transformation of business systems, service operations and customer fulfilment platforms.
  • The role is responsible for defining strategic architecture direction across telecom BSS, Service Operations, Salesforce Communications Cloud, ServiceNow and enterprise integration domains. A key focus is enabling large-scale business transformation, platform modernisation and complex migration programmes that support BT International's move towards an AI-enabled, asset-light operating model.
  • Working with senior technology and business leaders, you will shape target-state architectures, guide critical investment decisions and ensure transformation programmes deliver operational efficiency, customer value and long-term platform simplification.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead architecture strategy for large-scale business transformation and platform migration initiatives across BT International.
  • Define migration architectures, transition states, coexistence models and data migration approaches for business-critical applications and operational platforms.
  • Establish strategies for data synchronisation, system interoperability and risk management during complex transformation programmes.
  • Lead architecture decisions across Salesforce Communications Cloud, ServiceNow and telecom BSS ecosystems.
  • Drive modernisation of fulfilment, order management, product catalogue and CPQ capabilities through scalable and cloud-aligned architecture patterns.
  • Champion AI and Agentic AI opportunities within service operations and business process automation, ensuring practical business outcomes and operational efficiency.

Essential Skills / Experience

Strategic Architecture Leadership

  • Proven principal-level architecture leadership experience within large and complex enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to define technology strategy and influence executive stakeholders across business and technology functions.
  • Experience communicating architectural direction, transformation strategy and investment recommendations at executive leadership level.
  • Strong knowledge of Enterprise Architecture frameworks, including TOGAF or equivalent methodologies.

Telecom BSS & Transformation Expertise

  • Extensive experience delivering telecom BSS transformation programmes.
  • Strong understanding of customer fulfilment, order management, service delivery and operational support processes.
  • Experience with product catalogue, CPQ and Lead-to-Cash business capabilities.
  • Experience defining target-state architectures and transformation roadmaps for large-scale business and technology change.

Salesforce & ServiceNow

  • Demonstrated experience with Salesforce Communications Cloud architecture and transformation initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience leading ServiceNow architecture, implementation or enterprise transformation programmes.
  • Strong understanding of how business systems, service operations and customer lifecycle platforms integrate across enterprise environments.

Migration Architecture & Integration

  • Significant experience leading complex migration programmes involving application consolidation, platform replacement and technology modernisation.
  • Deep understanding of migration architecture, data migration strategies, coexistence models and phased transition approaches.
  • Experience identifying and mitigating migration risks, including data synchronisation, integration complexity and operational continuity challenges.
  • Strong API and systems integration expertise.
  • Experience designing integration architectures using REST APIs, microservices and event-driven patterns.
  • Experience with Kafka, streaming technologies and asynchronous integration architectures.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and cloud-native integration approaches.

Technology & Engineering Background

  • Hands-on technology background with strong engineering credibility.
  • Ability to engage technical teams on software design, integration patterns, architecture trade-offs and implementation approaches.
  • Strong understanding of modern software architecture principles and enterprise platform engineering.

AI & Innovation

  • Understanding of AI and Agentic AI concepts and their application within business systems, service operations and automation domains.
  • Experience identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency through automation, AI-driven decision making and intelligent workflows.

Personal Attributes

  • Pragmatic and commercially aware decision-maker.
  • Ability to balance strategic objectives with practical delivery realities.
  • Strong technical curiosity and continuous learning mindset.
  • Comfortable working across architecture, engineering, operations and business teams.

Key experience required

  • Telecom BSS transformation experience.
  • Salesforce Communications Cloud experience.
  • ServiceNow transformation experience.
  • Principal-level strategic architecture leadership.
  • Enterprise Architecture framework experience (TOGAF preferred).
  • Complex migration and data migration architecture expertise.
  • API-first and event-driven integration architecture experience.
  • Knowledge of Kafka and distributed systems.
  • Executive-level stakeholder communication skills.
  • Understanding of AI and Agentic AI use cases.
  • Strong technology and engineering background.
