Why this job matters

Based on the Dorset Police (DP) Customer site, this role is key to the delivery of the MSC (Managed Services Contract). Our Airwave Radio team ensures that critical blue light Airwave Radio services are delivered to our end users. The team conduct visits to sites within Dorset to resolve incidents and maintain services working closely with the customer, the on-site Service Desk and technical teams across the wider MSC. This requires a high level of communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.

In the role of Airwave Radio Professional, you will be responsible for the investigation and resolution of Airwave handset and vehicle radio related incidents across the estate within agreed SLAs, limiting the disruption to Dorset Police operational effectiveness.

You will be performing preventative maintenance and audits of Police vehicles and desktop radios. In addition to this you will also be auditing handheld radios. Auditing will be completed in line with the most recent Airwave code of practice to ensure the force is compliant.

You will also be responsible for conducting EMC tests to new Airwave installations which are required for a vehicle to enter operational service. You will also be required to assist with the Airwave Joiners, Mover and Leavers process (JML) and fulfilling Equipment Requests while maintaining suitable amount of stock as agreed with the customer.

What you’ll be doing

1. Responsible for providing Airwave services for Dorset Police, ensuring that customer needs are met as per the contractual requirement delivering technical skills to perform Resource Services tower activities across projects and small changes
2. Actioning the Joiners, Movers, Leavers (JML) process
3. Managing and maintaining stock, this includes shipping faulty airwave kit back to the manufacturer for repair e.g. Radios and ancillaries
4. Responsible for the investigation and resolution of Airwave handset and vehicle radio related incidents across the estate within agreed SLAs, limiting the disruption to Dorset Police operational effectiveness
5. Planning and implementing terminal configuration modifications and upgrades. This includes programming and upgrading of Airwave terminal software
6. Auditing of all Airwave equipment within the timelines set in the most recent Airwave code of practice
7. Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) vehicle testing
8. Functional testing and verification of new Vehicle Airwave equipment installations
9. Vehicle and desktop Preventative maintenance
10. Production of Dorset Police month end reporting to confirm SLA performance, analysis of report set and development of trending data to support or identify improvements and or underlying issues as required
