BMT is a leading global consultancy in design, engineering, science, and risk management in the maritime sector, known for excellence and innovation.

With 1,300+ experts across the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas, we help clients make informed decisions by delivering practical solutions, with the environment and sustainability at their core. As an employee-owned company, we reinvest profits into technology, strategic growth, and profit sharing, driving a safer, more efficient future.

Join BMT as a Senior Environmental Modeller in Perth and help shape the future of sustainable marine and coastal development. We're expanding our team and looking for experienced environmental scientists with strong modelling expertise, particularly in water quality and nutrient dynamics. You'll work on high-impact projects across Western Australia and collaborate with international partners in Scotland and Canada, applying cutting-edge science to real-world challenges.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Support the delivery of sustainable development projects by applying ecosystem response modelling to inform environmental approvals, cumulative impact assessments, and marine spatial planning across inland, coastal, and offshore environments.
  • Collaborate with modelling team members using TUFLOW FV hydrodynamic modelling suite to simulate ecosystem responses and support decision-making for environmental impact assessments and coastal resilience planning.
  • Assist in managing multidisciplinary marine projects, including aquaculture expansion, waste discharge planning, dredging and reclamation, sediment transport studies, hydrographic and environmental surveys, habitat mapping, and marine infrastructure development.
  • Contribute to environmental risk assessment and compliance, ensuring projects meet regulatory standards and sustainability objectives.
  • Participate in coastal resilience initiatives, including shoreline monitoring, climate adaptation strategies, and the design of nature-based solutions to support long-term environmental outcomes.
  • Collaborate with technical specialists and stakeholders to integrate scientific data into project planning and decision-making processes.

About you

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ post-graduate experience in environmental project delivery.
  • Proven expertise in numerical modelling, including data analysis and interpretation for complex environmental systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in environmental modelling, metocean monitoring, and coastal management.
  • Proficiency in multiple modelling and data analysis platforms, with a willingness to learn new tools.
  • A strong understanding of Australian and international environmental standards, with practical experience applying them across inland, coastal, and offshore projects.
  • Commercial awareness, with experience contributing to project planning and delivery.
