We are looking for a Sector Lead, Flood Risk and Resilience at the Senior Principal / Principal Consultant level to support the Flood and Coastal Risk and Modelling capability within the Environmental Services Team. You will play a key role in providing the senior technical leadership of our regional capability in Flood Risk and Resilience services.

As a Flood Risk and Resilience Senior Principal Consultant you will enjoy a varied role as you will provide the regional subject matter expertise for river hydraulics and river hydrology, flood risk assessment methods including the application of modelling software such as TUFLOW and FMP, river water quality, and the preparation and adoption of business cases for investment in flood defence.

You will be responsible for the delivery of flood risk and resilience projects to schedule and budget whilst meeting client and corporate expectations, and mentoring others in doing so.

In this role you will be responsible for identifying emerging trends for our flood risk and resilience customers, to ensure we have suitably qualified and experienced people to serve these needs.

You will also provide support to the capability lead for internal development gateway approval during the opportunity development phase.

In this role you will instigate and maintain oversight of innovation projects relevant to the flood risk and resilience capability.

The role presents the opportunity to work with colleagues working in Australia and Canada, on flood risk consultancy and the application of the TUFLOW modelling suite, as and when required.

This role includes acting as line manager for all staff in the Flood Risk and Resilience team including technical advice, leadership, and mentoring.

You will be responsible for assurance of the delivery of all flood risk and resilience services by the capability, acting as Checker or Certifier as required.

About you

We are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic and flexible team members, who share our values of trust, respect and collaboration. The experience and competencies required for the role are as follows:

· A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject such as Engineering Science, Geography, Environmental Science/Management or other relevant area of study.

· At least 10 years’ experience in at least one of the following areas: river hydraulics and river hydrology, flood risk assessment methods including the application of modelling software such as TUFLOW and FMP, river water quality, and the preparation and adoption of business cases for investment in flood defence.

· Hold ‘Professional Chartership’ Status of relevant professional institute membership such as CIWEM.

· Deep understanding of river hydraulics and river hydrology, flood risk assessment methods including the application of modelling software such as TUFLOW and FMP, river water quality, and the preparation and adoption of business cases for investment in flood defence.

· Detailed knowledge of flood and coastal defence management policy and assessment methods in all parts of the UK.

· Experience authoring documentation to a high standard to meet BMT’s clients needs, ensuring that all aspects of the work undertaken is scoped, described, and assured satisfactorily.

· Strong capability in the writing of compelling technical proposals that also manage risks to BMT and are supported by appropriate fee estimates.

· Effective communicator, with a strong ability to present professionally through verbal and written communication including internal and external presentations and conference papers.

· Ability to develop innovation ideas related to flood risk and resilience and working with others to bring them to the point of commercialisation.

· You must be self-motivated and have a logical and pragmatic approach to problem solving, be flexible and have a genuine enthusiasm to contribute to the growth of a successful business.

· Work with minimal supervision and guidance, taking responsibility for the delivery of our Flood Risk and Resilience services, decision making, planning and analysis.

· In addition to these duties, the post holder may be required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required, from time to time, to achieve the above role purpose. We expect you to share out passion for creating a more environmentally and socially sustainable future for all our stakeholders.

· You must be eligible to work in the UK to be considered for this role.
