Contract Type: Fixed term - 6 weeks

Location: In terms of location, we have 1 space in our Bath office and 1 space in our Whiteley office.

About The Role

We are looking for pro-active and keen undergraduate naval architects to join our Naval Architecture Team for 6-week summer placements. You will get the opportunity to experience the work environment and to work on our research & development, bidding or project work helping solve our clients’ problems and delivering them innovative, bespoke solutions. You will have the opportunity to work across our portfolio in the defence and specialist craft sectors (location dependent). This is a great opportunity for enthusiastic individuals with a passion to further learn and develop their naval architecture skills.
The main responsibilities will be to:

  • Develop and apply your breadth of naval architecture skills;
  • Use software and technologies to help solve complex engineering problems;
  • Contribute to developing new designs, and to maintain and improve the design of existing ships and submarines through undertaking research & development, bidding or project work;
  • Be part of a team interacting directly with our clients; and
  • Get the most out of your time with us through being pro-active and asking questions when you are unsure.

About You

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Naval Architecture or other closely related degree;
  • Interested in working in the defence or specialist craft sectors and keen to get experience of working in the business environment;
  • Experienced in using engineering/naval architecture software packages be that 2D or 3D CAD, stability or structural analysis;
  • Be proactive with an enquiring nature and able to work in a team environment; and
  • Able to communicate your thoughts and work in a clear and coherent manner, both verbally and in writing and able to manage your work to deadlines.
